The Pedigree Holstein sale on Wednesday 15th May at Borderway Mart saw a great variety of dairy cattle of all ages, quality and breeding.

Proceeding the Border and Lakeland entry were 64 Holstein cows and heifers to conclude the dispersal of the “Nortonhall” milking portion. These topped at 1,020gns for am December calved Cubby Metro heifer classified GP83 (2yr).

The club show and sale was smaller than desired and of better variable quality. Two females made 1,350gns. One was a 2nd calf fresh cow by Wormanby Airmail from Harry Hodgson and Family and the other was one of two fancied fresh heifers from Jimmy Baillies “Dalserf” herd. Also at 1,350gns was the Champion bull Rattrig Telegram PI from Messrs JG Shanks and Son, by Lystel Leduc and from an Excellent Monogram cow.

Following the club consignment came the “Bromstead” (with “Almond”) sale of 90 2001 born heifer calves and stirks, which sold consistently well to a serious clientele of buyers. Four made over 2,000gns with a 14 month old selling to a top of 2,800gns for an Emerson heifer out of a VG88 Rudolph from the Angel/Anna family tracing back to Hanoverhill (her full ET sister made 1,800gns) and from Paul and Gillian Rawcliffe’s “Almond” herd. Close behind at 2,600gns was a yearling calf also by Ricecrest Emerson. This heifer is a Grand daughter of Primsland Inspiration Kimo being off a VG88 (2yr) Jabot heifer.
