Under very sad circumstances the Lakeholme herd of pedigree Holsteins was dispersed in its entirety on Wednesday 14th December. Auctioneer Edward Brown, voiced not only his but everybody’s view that this herd possessed an overall quality combining longevity, body capacity, big butterfat, high protein that is increasing hard to find these days. It was hardly surprising that the trade was brisk and competitive throughout. [report] On December 14th once again the Border & Lakeland Holstein club attracted a wide range of buyers with over 50% exceeding 1,000gns. The show was judged by Mr Day, Bickleygate Holsteins, New Sheepfold Farm, Cleveland. [report] The dispersal sale for H&M Dalrymple of Mainhill, Lockerbie took place in Borderway Mart on Wednesday 7th December. [report] 19th Borderway Black and White Pedigree Sale The dream is back in Holstein breeding again! An awesome catalogue combined with awesome cattle made the 19th Borderway Black & White Sale on Saturday 3rd December one sale sure to remember. [report] Once again the November Border & Lakeland Holstein Club sale attracted a wide range of buyers. This month the quality from start to finish was quite breathtaking and this was proven by the consistent trade with 42 animals over 1000gns to a top price of 3,400gns. [report] Buyers from both Scotland and England arrived at Borderway Mart on 26th October to see the milking portion from Ronnie Bell’s Ruthwell herd go under the hammer. [report] With twenty-two prices at 1,000gns up to a top of 2,300gns was a clear indication that the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Show & Sale on Wednesday 19th October was further proof of the enduring success for providing top quality cattle. [report] Buyers from a wide area, North and South of the Border purchased animals from the dispersal sale of the Renniks herd of JO Lambie & Son at Borderway on Friday 14th October. [report] The dispersal sale for H & I Sloan, Hunter House, Lochmaben saw a packed ringside with many local farmers and neighbours there for support. The recent upsurge in the dairy trade was quite evident with ten animals selling for £1,000 plus to a top of £1,150. [report] For the third consecutive month the Champion at the Border & Lakeland Club sale sold for over £2,000. On Wednesday 14th September. Trade again was buoyant, especially for deep pedigrees, with more than twenty animals selling over 1,000gns. [report] Five thousand two hundred guineas secured the top priced bull, Annandale Lartist, consigned by W Armour & Sons, The Milton, Moffat at the 17th Annual Evening Bull Sale on Monday 12th September, Averaging £1,543.26 once again Borderway proved to remain the number one choice for buying pedigree dairy bulls in the country. [report] On Wednesday 7th September 2005 Harrison & Hetherington Ltd conducted the dispersal sale of the Morthwaite herd of Pedigree Holsteins on behalf of Gordon Stalker and family. The ever shortage in dairy cattle was again evident as twenty seven cows sold for over 1,000gns. The top price of the day was 2,800gns for Morthwaite Royal Polly GP84 a Wedgwood Royal daughter. [report] Invariably there is a finality with it of putting off a herd of dairy cows but it is at least some compensation if when they are sold, they sell well. Such was the case when Darnaway Holsteins herd was sold in its entirety on Wednesday 31st August. [report] The 23rd Gold Top Show and Sale of pedigree Jerseys at Borderway on Wednesday 24th August was, as predicted, fantastic trade for the small selection that was on offer. [report] The August Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Sale realised great trade for both buyers and sellers alike with better quality pedigrees attracting a recognised premium. [report] The 13th Red & White Sale on Wednesday 10th August was professionally judged by Ivie McIlwraith, Canonbie, Dumfriesshire. His champion of the day was Middle Jeans BM by Middle Brook Mitzy and was consigned by Messrs Whiteford, Ruleholme, Carlisle. [report] An awesome display of quality Holsteins at the Border & Lakeland Show and Sale were on offer at Borderway on Wednesday 20th July. This top-class calibre of animals resulted in trade being red hot! [report] The trade was on fire again at Borderway for the Border & Lakeland June Club Show and Sale. With a top price of 1,950gns and an average of £1,085 for 35 heifers clearly illustrated the ever-increasing demand for fresh young cows and heifers. With a top price of 1,900gns and an average of £1,120 for 27 heifers clearly illustrated the ever-increasing demand for fresh young cows and heifers. [report] The 9th Spring Gold Top Sale offered a selection of pedigree Jerseys from some of the top jersey breeders both North & South of the border. [report] A large crowd was in attendance at Borderway for the sale to celebrate 75 years of pedigree breeding from the famous Hunday herd, owned by Messrs E.Moffitt & Son, Stocksfield, Northumberland on Wednesday 27th April. [report] The quality in April for the Border & Lakeland Club Show & Sale exceeded the expectations of the judge,Mr Jim Gray, Drumtall, East Kilbride. [report] Rattra one of the longest established and well-respected pedigree Holstein herds in Scotland closed the book on business on Wednesday 6th April 2005 at Borderway Mart. [report] Dispersal of the Bellridge Herd of Holsteins on Wednesday 30th March for John Maughan, Bellridge, Matfen, Northumberland. [report] An impressive selection of bulls from the world’s leading cow families congregated in Borderway on Wednesday 16th March for the Border & Lakeland 2nd Spring Bull Show and Sale. [report] The March Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Show & Sale hosted another great turn out by all consignors involved. Demand, paralleled with a reduced supply, made for progressive trade up from the previous month. [report] The launch of the 2005 campaign of the Border & Lakeland Club Sales carried on from the considerable successes of last year when at the January monthly event a virtual 100% clear out to average very close to £1000 was achieved.
