Under very sad circumstances the Lakeholme herd of pedigree Holsteins was dispersed in its entirety on Wednesday 14th December. The emotion of the event from a huge crowd of local and distant dairy farmers was evident. Equally evident was the respect for the quality of the stock from the oldest cow to the youngest heifer calf. Auctioneer Edward Brown, voiced not only his but everybody’s view that this herd possessed an overall quality combining longevity, body capacity, big butterfat, high protein that is increasing hard to find these days. It was hardly surprising that the trade was brisk and competitive throughout. The top female price was for Lakeholme Galaxy Goal and sold for 1,600gns. This Milkin Galaxy just recently calved into her second lactation, and was sold to DG Morgan & AD Hughes, Little Auchentibbert, Logan, Cumnock. Sired by Boulet Charles, Lakeholme Katrina 2, sold for 1,550gns. This recently calved heifer was sold to PH Forbes, Dykehead, Blackford. Rheda Pieje 123, bred by P Donaldson, realised 1,500gns. This Ridgestar Justy third lactation cow was sold to Bays Leap Dairy Farm, Heddon On the Wall, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Also at 1,500gns was Lakeholme Sugar 5, a heifer in late lactation due soon with her second calf. Harras Holsteins of JH & JE Taylor, The Harras, Ainstable purchased her. Proctors Trojn, Lakeholmes pedigree Limousin bull, sired by Neutron, realised 3,200gns and was the top price of the sale. JB Marshall, Auchenleck, Auchencairn, Castle Douglas, was the successful purchaser. Leading Prices:
