REPORT

Five thousand two hundred guineas secured the top priced bull, Annandale Lartist, consigned by W Armour & Sons, The Milton, Moffat at the 17th Annual Evening Bull Sale on Monday 12th September, 2005. Averaging £1,543.26 once again Borderway proved to remain the number one choice for buying pedigree dairy bulls in the country.

Ten bulls making over £2,000, to a top of 5,200gns made the event an undoubted success. Mr Ray Brown, “Bidlea” Holsteins, Cheshire professionally judged the show. Ray tapped forward the Champion Berryholme Flo Emense from H Wright & Son followed by the Reserve Champion Townlaw Lexus the Firm of Bryce Sloan & M Simpson.

The Champion, Berryholme Flo Emense was bred from the numerous prizewinning including the National Holstein Show Champion 2003, Holmland Storm Flo EX93 2E. Consigned by H Wright & Son, Kendal, this Ricecrest Emerson son was purchased by L Brough & Sons, Hill Farm, Tallentire for 1,800gns.

The Reserve Champion, Townlaw Lexus was consigned by the Firm of Bryce Sloan & M Simpson. Bred from 4 generations of Excellent show winning cows from the world’s most successful Laurie Sheik VG88 family, this Rigilo Juror Capri son sold for 1,600gns to Mr H Wallace & Son, Clydenoch, Ochiltree, Cumnock.

Top Price

The top price, Annandale Lartist, Jordan son, gained second prize senior bull and was bred from 9 generations of Ex or VG Dams with superior components. It now joins the herd of MJ Wilson, Gate Farm, Uldale, Carlisle. Annandale bulls proved popular with the buyers averaging over £2400 for 7 bulls. The second top price and first prize senior bull also consigned by W Armour & Sons was Annandale Chameleon. Realising 2,500gns and sired by Hiddenvalley Henry, this high component bull was purchased by PR Stewart & Co, Falside, Pittenween, Fife.

From Rosshire, leading British Friesian breeder, AH Mann & Sons consigned Blackisle Majestic. This Parbury Venue son was bred from the same family as the popular Friesian sire Blackisle Glenalbyn and was sold for 2,500gns to G&S Parker, Balgown, Kirkcolm, Stranraer.
