Dispersal of the MOORTHWAITE HERD OF PEDIGREE HOLSTEINS Wednesday 7th September 2005 |

On Wednesday 7th September 2005 Harrison & Hetherington Ltd conducted the dispersal sale of the Morthwaite herd of Pedigree Holsteins on behalf of Gordon Stalker and family.
The ever shortage in dairy cattle was again evident as twenty seven cows sold for over 1,000gns. The top price of the day was 2,800gns for Morthwaite Royal Polly GP84 a Wedgwood Royal daughter selling recently fresh in her 2nd lactation giving 31kgs daily. She now joins the Highoaks herd of Messrs DE & LM Wilson, Penrith, Cumbria.
The next top price of 1,800gns was realised twice, firstly came a Miley Gilbert daughter, fresh in her 2nd lactation giving 44kgs daily and selling again to the Highoaks herd.Also at 1,800gns was a Mason daughter with a mammary system to die for selling to Seymour Farms of Leegate, Wigton.
One of the main attractions of the sale was the high quality maiden heifers, which averaged £612 with a top of over £1,000 for a Progress daughter from an 85 point Blackking. This heifer along with many of the youngstock sold to A Wallace of Craigley, Gelston, Castle Douglas.
One of the highlights of the day came nearing the end of the sale for a daughter of Carrousel Regimnent Red from an 85 point dam with over 11,000kgs in her third lactation. This extremely stylish heifer sold for 820gns to DR & HM Horsley of Woodhouse Farm, Catterlen, Penrith.
