REPORT

The trade was on fire at Borderway for the Border & Lakeland June Club Show and Sale. With a top price of 1,950gns and an average of £1,085 for 35 heifers clearly illustrated the ever-increasing demand for fresh young cows and heifers. Tapping forward the winners and the champion was the judge GE Jones & Co, Five Fords, Wrexham.

The top four prices were clinched by all of the Crossrigg consignments from John Harrison & Son, Clilburn, Penrith. Three of the four heifers now enter the Deveronside Herd of SG Mair & Son, Turriff, Aberdeenshire. Startmore Rudolph sired the top seller of the day, Crossrigg Dimple 10, from F Harrison & Son. This recently calved heifer originating from the Ewefields Dimple family realised 1,950gns for Mesrs SG Mair.

Selling for 1,900gns again to Deveronside Holsteins was Crossrigg Jane 2, the Champion of the show. Sired by Cousteau and from an Excellent 92 Astre dam and followed by five generations of Ex or VG cows, this heifer will undoubtedly complete the sixth generation.Again from the Dimple family, Crossrigg Dimple 11, brought 1300gns. Sired by Tcet Lyster, and out of an EX90 Lee dam she also heads to Turriff, Aberdeenshire.

T Howie, Muirside, Holywood snapped up Crossrigg Fairybell. This Comestar Lee daughter out of a VG85 Charles dam also realised 1,300gns. Also going to Holywood was Bowberhill Lydia consigned by Wn Hutchinson & Son, Kaber, Kirkby Stephen. Sired by Ked Juror this heifer sold for 1,250gns. The Muirside herd also gained Bridgemuir Jogger Babs 2 from JA Beattie & Sons, Lochmaben, Lockerbie. This high component Jogger daughter sold for 1,200gns.
