REPORT

The trade was on fire at Borderway for the Border & Lakeland May Club Show and Sale. With a top price of 1,900gns and an average of £1,120 for 27 heifers clearly illustrated the ever-increasing demand for fresh young cows and heifers. Tapping forward the winners and the champion was the judge Steven Carruthers, Towcett, Penrith.

Tapping forward the winners and the champion was the judge Steven Carruthers, Towcett, Penrith.

Topping the sale was a Duncan Progress daughter consigned by Steven & Anne Morley of Petteril Holsteins. Petteril Progress Charm 3 PI is bred from an EX94 3E Aeroline dam and was a member of the 10 best cows in the Border & Lakeland Herds Competition, 2004. Securing the bid at 1,900gns was J & R Hunter of Letterkenny Holsteins, Shotts, Lanarkshire.

First time consignor RS Musson, of Threelimes Holsteins now in Bardarroch Farm, Ochiltree, Ayrshire, claimed the Championship title with Blackbrook Denise 5. This heifer, just fresh, by Summershade Inquirer, was sold for 1,600gns to G & B Stevenson, Blue House Farm, Nr Saltburn, Cleveland.

Letterkenny Tiger Cat Lola consigned by J&R Hunter, West Tarbrax, Shotts, Lanarkshire, realised 1,420gns. Potential fourth generation of EX or VG cows, sired by Maplewood Tiger Cat, and freshly calved on the 18th April, she now enters the herd of A & C Robertson, Rothesay, Bute.

A & C Robertson, of East Colmac, Rothesay also snapped up Clifton Mickey Bella GP83, consigned by JP Holliday for 1,400gns. Also headed for Bute is Cotegill Wildeyes 33 bred by E & K Bland, Tebay, Penrith for 1,380gns.
