pedigree dairy / Rattra Sale 6th April 2005

Dispersal Sale of the
RATTRA HERD PEDIGREE HOLSTEIN CATTLE
Wednesday 6th April 2005

One of the longest established and well-respected pedigree Holstein herds in Scotland closed the book on business on Wednesday 6th April 2005 at Borderway Mart.

The entire Rattra herd of Messrs J Shanks & Son, Nutholm, Lockerbie brought power, longevity, class and production to the sale ring. The predominate sire of many was Firth Jedieson, bred by the Jamieson family, was the sire of the Best Progeny Group awarded by The South West Scotland herds competition. Out of the 12,446kgs Hanoverhill Blackstar Lulu EX91 he stamped the herd with style and with great udders. The overall confirmation in the recent classification resulting in 13 Excellent and 40 VG cows clearly shows that great type sells.

Rattra Dispersale Sale

A classy Weeton Jackson maiden heifer realised the top price of 2,000gns. The show calf Rattra Julie 519, promises to be a great investment for Sandy Stevenson, being a heifer with considerable show and breeding potential.

Rattra Julie 398 EX91 realised 1,800gns. This Firth Jedieson daughter in her 4th lactation is due in May to Maughlin Storm and was snapped up by G & A Linton, Craigie, Kilmarnock. To the same buyer was Rattra Rosie 310, a VG86 2yr old from 3 generations of EX or VG. Sired by Rattra Spirit this heifer sold for 1,800gns.

A Rattra Rosie family member claimed The Best Bred and Owned in the South West Herds Competition and noticeably was very popular in the ring with the buyers. Rattra Rosie 299 EX90 by Firth Jedieson realised 1,750gns to Tom Forsythe, Isle Farm, Whithorn. This awesome framed 3rd calved cow promises to be a real exciting prospect for starting a new family. Also going to the Isle Farm was a Leduc heifer from the renowned Vaakje family from Stardale for 1,700gns.

The Bridge End herd of Colin Dent claimed Rattra Leadership Flower PI for 1,500gns. From the Red Hot Glen Drummond Shower family this maiden heifer was sired by Haldrey Leadership.
