BORDER & LAKELAND HOLSTEIN CLUB 2nd SPRING BULL SHOW & SALE Wednesday 16th March 2005

Champion: (l-R) Graham Brooks, Coomara Veterinary Group, Anthony Brough Breeder, and Judge Robert Burrows.

An impressive selection of bulls from the world’s leading cow families congregated in Borderway on Wednesday 16th March 2005. The show was kindly sponsored by Coomara Veterinary Practice, Carlisle with the prizes presented by Graham Brooks. The line-up of winners was selected, expertly by Robert Burrows, “Stardale” Holsteins.

The choice of champion was Tallent Gambler consigned by Anthony Brough, North Lodge, Tallentire. This Convincer son was backed up from 5 generations form the Conant-Acres Gaye family. He now joins the herd of Mr Sanderson, Croftlands, Deanscales, Cockermouth for 1450gns.

Reserve Champion was an Outside from the Quietcove Fawn family consigned by T Graham & Son, Angus Wells, Kirklinton, Carlisle. He was sold for 1,800gns, and now enters the herd of W&N Donald & Sons, Lamonby House, Penrith.

Three bulls equalised the top price of the sale. W Armour & Son consigned two of these top prices. Annandale Lord Lily sired by Kellywell Fred Devon and from the Walkup Valiant Lou Ella EX92 family, was snapped up for 2,400gns by J&H Somerville, Larglea, Crocketford, Dumfries. Also from Annandale was a Annandale Sharpo son backed by 5 generations of VG or EX cows from the Flora family. He was sold into the herd of M &J Howat, Stevenston, Ochiltree, Ayrshire.

The Reserve Champion Dairy Scot 2004, Stannock Rudolph Lou Ella EX95, was full sister to Stannock Rocky who also realised 2,400gns. Bred from 8 generations of Lou Ella’s from Walkup he enters the “Newmeadow” herd of C Innes & Sons, Nairn.

Orkney bound, Warnelview Garnet, was consigned by JH & A Wilson &Sons, Thursby. This Lystel Lorenzo son was out of Stilbrook Grace 31 EX90-3E who averaged 8,000 kgs 5.22% 3.57% in 7 lactations. Richard Herdman, Linday, Sandwick, Orkney successfully closed the deal at 2,050gns.

The Interbreed Champion Dairy Scot 2000, Styche Jed Sally EX93 2E, is maternal sister to Styche Santa who realised 2,000gns. This 15mth old bull sired by James and consigned by Seaton Farms goes to Mark Farmers, Dunragit, Stranraer.
