The launch of the 2005 campaign of the Border & Lakeland Club Sales carried on from the considerable successes of last year when at the January monthly event a virtual 100% clear out to average very close to £1000 was achieved. “There is no doubt” said Glyn Lucas, auctioneer “that numbers and variety attract buyers and today proved yet again it is possible for vendors and purchasers to go home equally happy”.

The show was judged by Robert Hunter of the Letterkenny herd, West Tarbrax, Shotts, Lanarkshire.

He tapped forward Holmland Romario Amelia as Champion consigned by S Bell, Forest Hill, Penrith, and sold for 1,020gns to Mr C Cochrane, Nether Craig Farm, Kilmarnock. The Reserve Champion, Hawkland Progress Chess consigned by H&M Hodgson, Wormanby Farm, sold for 1,100gns to Drumchapel Estate, Brechin Angus.

The top price of the day of 1550gns was Kirkbride Clouseau Vaakje by Summershade Inquirer. This extremely stylish heifer recently calved in December and is bred from an EX90 3rd Dam Stardale Starbuck Vaakje 3. She now enters the Maridale herd of Mesr M Ridsdale & Son, Yew Tree Farm, Penrith.

Holmeden H Principal Tilly consigned by J Hodgson realised the second top price of 1120gns. This Crichel Principal daughter is bred from 6 generations of EX or VG cows of the Tilly family from Bowerchalke. WM & KA Harrington, Flatbank Carlisle took home this heifer.

The Annandale herd of WJ Armour, The Milton, Moffatt consigned a nice selection of fresh and recently calved heifers. One of the stars being Annandale Moonlight sired by Tullithwaite Lucky Star. Giving just over 40kgs daily this 1100gn heifer was sold to the Firm of WA Clark, Whins, Ecclefechan.
