Their 190 cows and in calf heifers were duly sent to Borderway Mart
where they were received by a good crowd of commercial and pedigree
dairy farmers. The herd, which privately milk recorded and non-pedigree,
comprised a great variety of very sound good production cows and heifers,
some of which had been bred from pedigree purchasers over the years. The fact that ten made over £1,000 to a top of £1,350 selling to buyers from Lancaster to the Argyll, Bute and Newcastle to Stranraer and all stations between reflected three things: the respect commanded by the Graham family; the nature of the cattle; and the unrivalled position of Borderway Mart. The top price of £1,350 was for a cracking good two month calved 4th lactation cow with a second lactation of 12,000kgs. She now joins Mr A Innes Smith’s “Heddonstead’s” herd of Heddon on the Wall, Newcastle along with a classy Aeroline fresh second calf cow at £1,200. Also a £1,200 was another recently calved fourth calver by Pride Black Roxstar purchased by Mr J Young for an undisclosed client. Heifer calves were making up to £370 (Genus Jayson) with several at £300 (Jayson & Lucente). The smart batch of June/July calving heifers, due to a limousin bull were consistently in type and price from £700 to £800. It was a very successful sale for all concerned. Leading Prices:
