Production sale

An extensive array of buyers from throughout the country and predominantly north of the border converged at Borderway for the Nethervale and Morven Production Sale on Wednesday 30th June 2004.

The show winning Moscow Integrity Nita VG89 took the top price of the sale at 3,800gns for Mr A Alston, Drumchapel Estate, Brechin; & Mr D Alston, Usan House, Montrose, & James Currie & Son, Carlinside Farm, Nemphlar. Her show successes include being top placed Scottish heifer at Dairy Scot 2003 and of recent, Champion of Champions at Largs show. Nita, fresh into her second, has produced 11,168kgs in her first lactation. Her daughter by Moscow Elsius realised 980gns and goes to the Woodend Farm of Mr John Patterson, Balfron, By Glasgow.

The second top price was 2,200gns and was brought by three individuals. Nethervale Liza 5 VG87, by Nethervale Royality, was secured by Mr Dean, Toft House Farm, Threshfield, Nr Skipton, N Yorks who also purchased a further 11 lots.

Nethervale Storm Stephanie PI 3, bred from the Twilight Stephanie VG87 family, is a VG86 daughter by Kepculloch Ronny PI. In calf to Silky Gibson, she now enters the Kepculloch herd of Mesr R Steel & Son, Kepculloch, Balfron, By Glasgow.

Mesr JR McKay & Son, Broughton Mains, Sorbie, Whithorn snapped up Nethervale LL Molly by Etazon Lord Lily for 2,200gns. Recently fresh in her second lactation, Molly is potentially the third generation of VG or Excellent cows. Her dam, Kepculloch BC Molly EX90, bred by R Steel & Son has gained show success at Dairy Scot and other local shows.

An Indianhead Red Marker daughter, Nethervale RM Duchess, bred from 7 generations of VG or Excellent from the well known Manorpowis Duchess family. This in-calf heifer was purchased for 2,100gns by Mr J Patterson, Claylands, Balfron, Nr Glasgow. At 2,000gns Sterndale Lucky Pat PI EX90, projected at 10,908kgs in her fifth lactation, was purchased by Mr G Steel, Gartentruach Farm, Buchlyvie.

Six members from the well-established and particular favourite family, the Tea Rose’s, averaged 1,126gns from the Morven herd.. The hammer fell at 1,850gns for Morven Tea Rose 8 EX90 to Mesr TA & E Jackson, Guillyhill, Holywood, Dumfries. Giving 34.2kgs daily, this Maughlin Storm daughter sold in calf to Comestar Lausano. He also secured Morven Stormy Tea Rose GP83 at 1500gns. Andrew Wilson, Carskerdo Farm, Cupar, Fife snapped up Moven Tea Rose 12 VG86 also at 1,850gns. By Mason, and in calf to Pursiut September Storm, she is giving 30.8kgs daily.
