DISPERSAL
OF THE BRICKNELL HOLSTEIN HERD
Thursday 8th April 2004 |
| Sale Report |
It was heralded as one of the most important and significant Holstein
dispersals for some time, and it lived up to these lofty expectations.
The Carter family’s Bricknell herd, with the huge depth of pedigrees
for type, milk production and quality and longevity is legendary through
the Ruby and Ethel families, and subsequently with the imported bloodlines,
notably, the Roxy’s, Sensations, Augusts, Peaches, Gails, Rhapsodies
to name a few.
The enormous crowd at Borderway Mart of pedigree breeders from Cornwall
to Inverness and Ireland respected the quality, not only of the breeding
but also the turnout of animals themselves. The vendors excelled in
their attention to detail in the presentation of this noted herd, and
the crowd turned their respect into bids. All this combined to result
in no less than fifty individual animals from eleven year old cows
to baby calves making 2000gns or more of which twenty one made over
3000gns, nine over 4000gns and four over 5000gns to a top call of 6500gns.

| Bricknell Airliner Amanda PI VG87 |
This last bid secured for Co.Tyrone breeder Mr Michael McGinley (Garvaghey)
the very classy Bricknell Airliner Amanda PI VG87 (lot 141) a mid July
calving daughter of the EX94 Clovermist Amanda whose dam was the legendary
DRA August.
This second lactation Airliner cows seven and a half month
old Integrity heifer calf was knocked down for 5600gns to Mr Rob Musson
of the “Threelimes” herd.
Attracting particularly pre-sale interest was the “Roxy” contingent
and they duly confronted very spirited demand with the July calving
5th lactation Jed Roxy 4 making 5200gns to the Firm of WW Neilson (Overside)
and R Steel and son( Kepculloch) with her fresh Igniter daughter at
5000gns and her September 2000 Lee daughter at 4200gns.
