The 18th Borderway Black and White Sale - with colour
SATURDAY 4th DECEMBER 2004
What a fantastic day! That was the repeated phrase for
many people after this the 18th staging of the Black & White Sale
on Saturday 4th December 2004. It had razzmatazz, a vibrant atmosphere
and the vendors and purchasers all had a great day.
The catalogue had the very best on paper from all the
greatest families with some first ever family’s selling. It just wasn’t
only on paper, the quality and class of the individuals matched up
with their purebred heritage. John Copithorne,
Calgary Canada, one of North America’s greatest Auctioneers,
read pedigrees at the sale. He also sold the sale of Stars this year
and said, "I wish we had
the quality in Toronto as is here at the Black & White Sale".

Top Price - Honesberie Talent Lustre
Back
Row - Auctioneers Glyn Lucas, Edward Brown & John Copithorne (Pedigree
Reader), Front Row Bill Nadin Sterndale Holsteins, & Yasmin
Bradbury, Peak
Holsteins (Purchaser), and Nigel Hollick (vendor) |
The top price of the day was a Talent grand daughter of Integrity’s
greatest the awesome Idee Lustre EX95, who topped the Stanhope Wedgwood
Sale 2001 at $175,000. Honesberie Talent Lustre, consigned by Nigel
Hollick, Warwickshire, was the first ever member to be sold in Europe
from this red hot family. The hammer dropped at 10,500gns to Peak Holsteins
of Yasmin Bradbury & WJ Nadin, Sterndale Holsteins, Derbyshire.
Her dam, sired by Gibson, is just fresh and is one of many exciting
prospects at Stanhope Wedgwood.
The second to get into the headlines was one of the overseas consignments
from Eddie Pussimier, Be Bois Holsteins, Belgium. This Stormatic daughter
from the heart of the Laurie Sheik family had some beautiful lines
with her long feminine head and neck and angular front end this heifer
just moved like a ballet dancer. She sold for 5,700gns to an undisclosed
buyer.
 |
| Gray-Ridge GC Elegance ET the six
month old heifer calf which broke the Jersey sale record price
for David Gray and Andy Cope when it sold for 5,000gns. Her full
sister Eclipse sold for 3,500gns at the sale. |
Then it was Jersey time and what a time they had. The
two leading jersey prices were full sisters selling on choice and were
both consigned
by Grayridge Jerseys from David Gray & Andy Cope. They were weapons
of mass distraction and are maternal sisters to the awesome and most
talked about jersey in North America Just A Few Renaissance Elisha
EX94, All American All Canadian on numerous occasions. Grayridge GC
Elegance and Grayridge GC Eclipse have the same exceptional qualities
as Elisha, and now they join the Designer herd of Pete Prior and Cat
Moodie for 5,000gns and 3,500gns respectively.
Bilsrow Gibson Shower from the Bilsrow herd of David & Sheila Tomlinson
realised 4,600gns. A real stylish calf that had already has a proven
show record. Sired by Gibson and from the Glendrummond Shower family,
she now enters the Dewi herd of IG & BC James, Llandysul.
Consigned by Carole Wood of Ours Holsteins, Heartbeat Outside Honey
2, sold for 4,500gns. Bred by JH Morley & JA Richardson and backed
by 7 generations of EX or VG cows, she now enters the Brynhyfrydd herd
of JWC George, Pembrokeshire.
The 6th top price of the sale was for Bilsrow Champion Roxy consigned
again by D & S Tomlinson. The Horwood herd of WA Hall Herds Ltd,
Buckinghamshire snapped up this showy heifer for 4,100gns.
A potential 7th generation of EX or VG cows from the Woodmarsh Lyme
family sold for 4,000gns to Clayden Holsteins, Crewe. This tremendous
type and production family has generated many valuable animals including
Woodmarsh Terrason Lyme who was Supreme Champion National Calf Show
2003 and All Britain Maiden heifer 2003.
The final average of almost £3,000.00 was testimony to the calibre
of stock on offer and it is further assurance that quality cattle continue
to demand a premium in the market place.
