THE HOLMEDEN AUTUMN OPPORTUNITY SALE
Friday 29th October 2004

Top Price

Friday 29th October 2004 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle was the Holmeden Autumn Opportunity Sale.

This sale was full of fantastic opportunities to purchase scintillating Holstein from great families. John Hodgson from Holmeden along with guest consignors, Anthony Brough of Tallent Holsteins, Robert Steel of Kepculloch Holsteins and Moet sold a quality selection from each of their herds respectively.

For the second time in as many weeks it was a daughter of Regancrest Elton Durham that had heads spinning at Borderway. This time it was a March yearling from the much-talked about and much admired Drigo Kent Peggy Ex 94 from a pedigree as deep as the Irish Sea. At 5,000 guineas the bidding stopped and Peter Aconley from Yorkshire now owns this exciting female.

Champion Stephie

The next animal to tickle the shavings at Borderway and cause a stir was a Mtoto daughter from the 44 Star Brood cow Condon Aero Sharon Ex 91. This young cow just fresh in her second and full sister to one of the UK’s most talked about sires Picston Shottle, she now joins Mr. Eggleston, Bridge Farm for 3,000 guineas.

Holmeden Outside August was another outstanding individual from an outstanding family. Sired by Outside and from a VG85 daughter of Mandel this stylish young calf’s 3rd dam was the awesome DRA August Ex96, she joins Brian Yates’ herd up in Castle Douglas.

It was then Genus’ turn to make the headlines, with an exceptional udder and milking almost 50kg a day this grand daughter of the Ex91 Moet Manger Martha sold for 2,200 guineas and joins the herd of Messrs. Dent, Greengill Farm, Penrith.

The Rosettas

Robert Steel of Kepculloch Holsteins had an exceptional consignment of fresh heifers and young cows with welded on udders. It was one of these fancy young animals that had bidding bouncing. With the All-American and All-Canadian Stookey Elm Park Blackrose as a 4th dam, this beautifully balanced daughter of Whilter Farms, Kenrik sold for 1,700 guineas and joins Messrs. S.G. Mair, Kinnermit, Aberdeenshire.

All four consigners of the Autumn Opportunity Sale wish the new owners of their stock all the best in the future.
