The largest entry of females for a long time was seen at the Border & Lakeland’s
Show & Sale on Wednesday 20th October 2004.
As expected, virtually 100% clear
out with 15 heifers selling over 1,000gns to a top of 1420gns. A wonderfully
varied clientele of serious pedigree and commercial buyers attended, the net
result being a sale that will have pleased sellers and buyers alike.
There
were several very smart batches, not only from the regular local breeders
but also from herds three hundred miles away. For example the 12 hour journey
from
the Mull of Kintyre & the Isle of Gigha was worth making for Matthew Ralston & Kenny
Robison respectively.
The top price was realised by the Reserve Champion consigned by Nelson Barton “Barwood”,
Kirkby Lonsdale. Barwood Leduc Greta, a recently fresh Leduc, sold for 1,420gns
and enters the Petteril herd of Stephen & Anne Morley, Southwaite, Carlisle.

H&G Mair, Townhead Farm, Mouswald claimed the second top priced heifer,
Grangecroft Progress Joyce 94. Selling at 1,220gns this fresh heifer was consigned
by HG Middleton & Son, Hull, North Humberside. Also going to Townhead
Farm was Hebrides Park Nell. Consigned by Kenny Robison and sired by Juniper
Park,
she was knocked down for 1,200gns.
A recently fresh young cow by Eastland Figaro consigned by R&E Butterfield
realised 1,100gns. In her second lactation, Ingleview Figaro Kay PI GP83
now enters the herd of RI Spedding, Stone Flatts, Carlisle.
The Champion, Boustead Millennium Freda was tapped forward by Mr Paul Harrison
of the Chisleways Herd. Sired by Holmeden Millenium, this heifer enters the
Errolston herd of B&V Davidson for 1,100gns.
