REPORT

At Borderway Mart on Friday 15th October 2004 prices peaked at 6,000gns in
Alan McGeoch’s dispersal sale of his “Whiteleys” herd of
Pedigree Holsteins from Stranraer.
A fantastic herd of classy Holsteins with
a natural
ability to produce milk, with beautiful frames and udders to die for.
Top price of the day was 6,000gns which came for a daughter of the much admired
Regancrest Elton Durham and great grand daughter of the awesome and breed changing
Robthom Ivory Mark EX94. A beautiful heifer in her own right Whiteleys Durham
Raisin VG86 has a big future and was described by auctioneer Glyn Lucas as “The
Ultimate package and an opportunity not to be missed”. She now joins
the “Scawfell” herd of Peter Sherwen from Bridge Petton Farm, Gosforth,
Seascale, Cumbria.
Directly following Raisin was a daughter of Silky Cousteau,
Whiteleys Silky Kitty classified VG88 with a breathtaking udder and sold in
her second lactation. This stylish young cow whom earlier in the year took
the Supreme Interbreed and Exhibitor Bred Championship at Stranraer Show sold
for 2,700gns to an undisclosed Scottish buyer.
Among the stars of the day was
Whiteleys Carlo Ashley, a daughter of Cogent Monte Carlo, in her second lactation
having calved in early July and also classified VG88 she turned many heads
when she graced the ring with her presence. This true dairy cow with a fancy
frame and silky udder is one that I am sure we will see again raised 2,500gns
and now joins the “Stannock” herd of Murray McIlwraith from Stannock,
Isle of Whithorn, Newton Stewart.
At 1,750gns Peter Sherwen again made an excellent purchase for a Marcrest Encore
daughter from the heart of the Bridget family. Classified VG86, Whiteleys Encore
Barb PI ET from the great EX93 Clover-Mist Royal Barb is a big powerful cow
and surely will have the ability to be a great brood cow.
Following the sale Alan McGeoch’s youngest daughter pulled lot number
20 out of the hat for the prize of a two nights stay at the Cameron House Hotel
in Loch Lomond which was introduced as a goodwill gesture from the vendors.
The lucky purchaser of lot 20 was Mr G McCulloch of High Arwell, Stranraer.
Alan would like to thank everyone who attended the sale and wishes everyone
who purchased animals all the very best for the future.
