REPORT

The Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Show & Sale held on Wednesday 18th August 2004 at Borderway realised a good entry of both type and production of the catalogued animals sold through the packed ringside.

Champion - R&E Butterfield, Stephen Brough - Judge; & Robb Syurseth; Barclays representative.

Mr Stephen Brough, Carrock Holsteins, Dalston, Carlisle, tapped forward the champions and the resultant prize-winners of the day. The show and trade of cattle was brisk with fourteen lots over 1,000gns.

Realising the top price of the day was Payhembury Dante Prudence, for 1,500gns, consigned by Robert & Elaine Butterfield, Linghaw, Bentham, Lancaster. This much-admired heifer, was first prize and overall champion, and was secured by Messrs JD Bowness, Clilburn Hall, Penrith.

Clinching the second top price, also consigned by the Butterfield family, and was 2nd prize cow, Ingleview Integrity Sweet PI VG85. Sired by Robthom Integrity, she now enters the herd of Messrs Dent, Greengill Farm, Penrith, selling for 1,350gns.

Wormanby Formation Jill 2, sold for 1,220gns consigned by H&M Hodgson, Wormanby Farm, Burgh By Sands. After some spirited bidding from the ringside, she was knocked down to Messrss Simpson & Son, Waingatehead, Kirklinton, Carlisle, who also went to secure the next top price Wornamby Formation Sheila 49 at 1,200gns.
