THE NEWCETT DISPERSAL SALE
For Messrs G & S Carruthers, Towcett Farm, Newby, Penrith
The Newcett dispersal, held at Borderway
Mart, Carlisle on May 19th attracted a large crowd of buyers
with spirited biding for all ages of stock on offer. The Carruthers
family from Towcett Farm, Newby, had restocked two years ago
with the younger milking section of the Leamington herd, basin
in Warwickshire.
Top price of the day was 3,000 guineas paid by Messrs I & J
Mallinson for Leamington Storm Lunar (Ex-93-2E). Sold midway
through her fourth
lactation and projected for a 13,000kgs yield, she carried a short
service to Robthom Integrity. This powerful Maughlin Storm daughter
was bred from a Tesk dam and Hilltopper Warden grand dam and now
joins the Carhall herd.
Next highest price was 2,000 guineas for Leamington Esquimau Seaspray
4 (Ex-91). This third lactation cow had given 9,368kgs in her second
and sold giving 49kgs per day having calved in February. The successful
purchaser was Mr G R O’Donnell, County Fermanagh, N.I., for
his Rossigh herd.
The Warnelview herd of Messrs J H & A Wilson & Sons added
Cotegill Pansy 15 classified VG-86 and a daughter of Eaveshall Raider
to their prize winning unit. Now in her second lactation she made
1,900 guineas. The same purchaser also selected the Excellent rated
Leamington Storm Netta 2nd at 1,700 guineas and Shawbrae Ladybird,
another Storm daughter, this one milking in her first lactation and
classified at 85 points for 1,400 guineas.
