THE WALESCOT SALE
For Mr Ian Wakley
Wednesday 18th June 2003

Walescot Milking Portion Dispersed……

Ian Wakley from Aberdeenshire moved his high yielding Walescot herd to Borderway Mart in Carlisle, for the dispersal of the milking portion on June 18th 2003.

With a herd average of 11,600kgs, high indexes and colossal yields throughout, the milking herd was recorded at an average of 42.2kgs (3x milked) on 15th June before setting off for the sale.

Topping the sale at 2,100gns was Walescot Addison Della PI, a fresh calved heifer from a noted PI North American family giving 53.4kgs daily. She was purchased by Aubrey Greenhalgh for shipment to Co. Down in Northern Ireland, to join the Ballygowan herd of Mr. B.T. Lilburn.

One of the most admired cows was Highland Dan Debby VG-87, a daughter of Dannix bred by Alistair Sutherland that gave 11,000kgs in a 305 day lactation as a heifer. She sold two months calved into her second lactation giving 65.8kgs, for 2,000gns to John & Kevin Wilson of the Warnelview herd at Thursby, Carlisle. The same buyers also claimed Walescot Unique Feldina VG-87-2yr, who was pictured on the cover of the catalogue. This heifer was one of a number of outstanding daughters of Firth Unique in the sale and sold giving 43.2kgs daily.

As is often the case red cows attracted good interest and Ifordfarms Laura Red 142 VG-85 fetched 1,800gs to Messrs J.R. & L.M. Graves of High Hesketh, Carlisle. She was projected to give 12,000kgs in her second lactation and was sold guaranteed in-calf to Beautiful for early October. Joe Marrs from Broomhills near Carlisle, purchased Walescot Addison Nu-Nu GP-83-2yrs a fresh heifer giving 44.8kgs daily for 1,650gns. Another daughter of Firth Unique, Walescot Unique Blodwyn fetched 1,700gns to Messrs G.P. Taylor & Sons from Gt. Asby, Appleby. Only a fortnight calved she was already up to 43kgs daily.

The milking heifers were the feature of the trade averaging 1,460gns a piece with some buyers returning home empty handed.
