The Valeoskene Dispersal Sale, comprising 143 individual animals, was held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Wednesday 9th April. Built on a policy of balancing type and production while emphasing longevity based on strong cow families, the Valesokene herd drew buyers from throughout the UK in particular drew great support from Northern Scotland. Twelve head brought 2,000gn bids and better, up to 3,500. Knocking down the hammer were auctioneers Edward Brown & David Jones. “This has been one of the most enjoyable and exciting sales staged at Borderway,” said David Jones.
Sparking the top price of 3,500gns was Damestar Skychief Tara PI EX93, (Lot 110) a 4th lactation cow imported from the Harwil herd,Canada, who was purchased by Mesr L&G Vasami, Glasfryn Farm, Rhydlewis, Dyfed. She has produced over 11,719kgs in her third lactation and now in her 4th is still milking 36.4Kgs.
Two others also enter the Santamaria Herd of L&G Vasami. At 2,100gns, is Valeoskene Miss America 6 VG87, bred from 3 generations of EX or VG from the Joylan Miss America 21 EX90-3E family and Valeoskene Sugar 3 VG86 going back to Kingsway, in her second lactation she is milking 43.2kgs daily realising 1,600gns.
A member of the renowned Primrose family, Valeoskene Primrose 10 VG88, was second highest seller at 3,000gns purchased by Mr.T Gilliand, Nyadd Farm, Blairdrummond, Stirling.This very stylish 3yr old is backed by at least 4 Very Good or Excellent dams and is currently producing 29.4kgs.
The Firm of R Reid, Bengal Hill, Lockerbie, Dumfriess, paid 2,850gns for VG86 Valeoskene Waverley PI 3. Out of a VG88 Counselor dam, she recently freshened into her third lactation.
Valeoskene Leduc Paula PI 2 out of the EX90 Valeoskene Paula sired by Duregal Astre Starbuck enters the herd of Mr Howie, Muirside Farm, Holywood, Dumfriess for 2,800gns. Chasing at 2,600gns was Valeoskene Waverley PI 6, an In-Calf heifer by Leduc entering the herd of Issaac Lancaster, Horton Grange Farm, Skipton, Yorkshire.
