An enthusiastic crowd of buyers gathered for the 2003 Brown Swiss Society Sale, travelling from as far away as Lancashire and Cornwall in the search of the genetics on offer. Mr R Derryman, Wadebridge, Cornwall achieved top price of 1,390gns for his home bred 2nd calver, Atlantic Emory Duchess. Classified VG87 and due again late summer, this Jubilation Emory daughter had given 7,328kgs at 4.22% (3.44%) in her 1st lactation and sold 242 days into her 2nd lactation giving 18kgs daily. The successful buyer was Farrick Farms, Lancashire who took 7 animals home in total. Second top price of 1,080gns was paid by Messrs DJD & JB Taylor, Shropshire for their WEBSCOTT herd. Their choice was Clonter Swiss Jessica 4th in calf and due in May. She descends from the famous American brood cow Jinx EX (3E) and is a daughter of the homebred Jetway son, bred by Messrs Lockett Partners, Cheshire. Messrs Doak & Sons, Lanarkshire, Scotland sold Muirfoot Ensign Pearl (GP80 2yrs) for 1,000gns due shortly and bred from the EX92 Rosie Pearl. She was the choice of Mr K Thomas, Carmarthen and joins his ALLSTAR herd. Also over 1,000gns were two heifers due in the Autumn from Europon Livestock. Top price heifer calf was the 4-month-old Cancourt Silk from Messrs M & J Hussey selling to Messrs A & C Davis Carmarthen for their Quarry herd. Averages: |
