THE BARRINA DISPERSAL SALE

The dispersal
of the Barrina Herd took place on Thursday 20th November at Burley
Road Farm, Sixpenny Handley, Salisbury, Wiltshire, where
a packed ringside created a fine atmosphere and an excellent trade
throughout for Messrs. B.G. & G.M. Green.
Top price was 5,600 gns for the seven year old Shoremar Lee Jayne EX91,
a daughter of Comestar Leader and bred from seven generations of Excellent
and VG cows from the noted Sky-Hi Mars Helen family. Having completed
a third lactation of 11,613 kgs at 4.26% (3.16%) she sold near calving
to Calbrett Champion. The successful purchaser was Messrs S.T. Layton & Sons,
Hereford for their Jomaras herd. Also on the way to Jomaras is the
VG87 Maidenstone Mtoto Sweet who sold in her second lactation projected
to 13,000 kgs. Descending from ten generations of VG and Excellent
cows this Mtoto daughter is due again with her third in March to Leduc
and made 3,200 gns.
Second highest of the day was Barrina Aaron Barb GP84-2yrs who made
4,400 gns and sold to Mr. D.E. Grigg, Bideford, North Devon for his
Ventonian herd. This recently calved heifer is bred from five generations
of Excellent cows. Her dam, Hanoverhill Logic Berry EX was an exceptional
brood cow and gave 10,794 kgs 4.29% (3.18%) in her third lactation.
Berry’s nine month old daughter by Robthom Integrity sold for
3,000 gns to Mr. P.J. Bradley, Isle of Wight for his Crockers herd.
Barrina Integrity Rosalie VG87-2yrs reached 3,200 gns selling to Mr.
D. Pyle for his Hemburyfort herd near Honiton, Devon. Bred from five
generations of VG and Excellent cows she was giving 33 kgs a day having
been calved six weeks. Her Excellent Aerostar dam had produced over
12,000 kgs in her fifth lactation.
The sale contained some exceptional daughters of the stock bull Painley
Kansas and these sold to a top price of 3,000 gns for Barrina Kansas
Joy VG88. A daughter of the top priced cow she is the ninth successive
generation of VG and Excellent cows and is due again with her third
in May. She heads to Cheshire to join the Painley herd of Messrs. J. & V.
Barlow.
