THE ELEVENTH SHOW & SALE OF REGISTERED PEDIGREE RED & WHITE CATTLE
Wednesday 13th August 2003

The Eleventh Show & Sale of Pedigree Red & White cattle on Wednesday 13th August 2003 brought both an impressive show of good quality coloured cattle and spectators to Borderway Mart. “The live sale ring has emphasised the demand and the importance of coloured cattle within the dairy industry realising a 100% clearance” said Andrew Templeton, Auctioneer.

The Champion, tapped forward by the judge Mr Colin Mair, Townhead, Mouswald, was Middle Jean 530 EX93. Jointly owned by John Whiteford and DA Howie & Sons, this recently fresh fourth calver was sired by Morwick Sand Ranger Red who also sired the Supreme Champion at the Royal Highland Show. Selling for 2,200gns, she now joins the herd of Bailey Farms Limited,
Crook-O-Lune Farm, Howgill, Kendal. “This has been one the most impressive sales of Ayrshire cattle this year within the UK” said the judge, Colin Mair.

The Reserve Champion who realised top price of 2,400 gns was Morwick Brown Girl 177. This fresh heifer giving 27kgs is the first daughter to be sold of Morwick Marcel Red Hol. She also enters the herd of Bailey Farms Limited, Crook-O-Lune, Howgill, Kendal.

Three animals from the Morwick, Knockenjig and Marleycote herds realised prices in excess of 1,200gns. Morwick Peggy 74 consigned by DA Howie & Sons received 1st prize in the Senior heifer class and was snapped up by Messrs Watson, Newlands Farm Carlisle for 1,250gns.

Mesrs W & N Donald & Sons, Lamonby House, Penrith take home Knockenjig Lily 6 for 1,220gns consigned by David M Dickie, Knockenjig Sanqhuar.

Also entering the herd of Messrs W & N Donald & Sons is Marleycote Marigold for 1,200gns. She was 1st & honorable mention, 1st Progeny group and a member of the 2nd place Interbreed team at the Great Yorkshire Show 2003.
