The Upsall & Cloudnine Dispersal, comprising 89 individual animals,was held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Wednesday 31st October 2002.

Built on a policy of balancing type and production while emphasing longevity based on strong cow families, the Upsall herd drew buyers from throughout the UK; Northern Ireland, Devon, South Wales and Central Scotland.

Twenty head brought 2,000gn bids and better, up to 5,800. Knocking down the hammer were auctioneers Edward Brown & David Jones.

'This has been one of the most enjoyable and exciting sales staged at Borderway' said David Jones.

Sparking the top price of 5,800gns was Upsall Integrity Sher PI VG89, (Lot 58) a 4yr old from the Quality Astro Sheri family, who was purchased by M&O Eaton, Smiddiehill Holsteins, Nr Wolverhampton. She has currently produced over 10,000kgs in 225 days and is still milking 36Kgs.

Also entering the Smiddiehill herd, at 2,400gns, is Upsall Silky Brent, a show calf from Upsall Rudolph Brent VG88. She was 1st Senior Calf at the North Eastern Calf Show and 3rd at the All Breeds All Britain.

A member of the renowned Roxy family, Upsall Roxie Lee PI VG87, was second highest seller at 5,000gns purchased by Mr.Greenhaugh on behalf of a client. This very stylish 2yr old is backed by at least 7 Very Good or Excellent dams and is currently producing 29.2kgs .

Mr Howie, Muirside, Dumfriess, paid 4,400gns for VG86 2yr old Upsall Progress Barb. Off 6 generations of both VG and EX dams, Barb relates back to the famous Hanoverhill S Elev Barb. Her Storm calf went to Mr Spence & Son, Frankham, Hexham, for 2,400gns.

Upsall Skychief Gremlin PI EX93-2,(4,300gns) who was Reserve Jnr Champion & Reserve Exhibitor Bred at the National Holstein Show 2000, was claimed by John and Val Barker of Ridgfield Holsteins, Groby Lodge. Also joining the Ridgefield herd is the Champion All Breeds All Britain Calf, Cloudnine Leduc Cherish, who sold for 3,700gns.

A descendant of the Hanoverhill Astro Mae family, realising 3,500gns, was Upsall Mae Storm VG87 for Mesrs JL Miles & Son, Little Bridge Farm, Northallerton.
