SALE OF 341 PEDIGREE & PI HOLSTEINS FROM THE
“CHANGUEFARM” & ”GARRALLAN” HERDS

This sale was brought about by severe overstocking, which was an aftermath of the FMD movement restrictions last year. Robert Stevenson from Changue Farm, Cumnock, Ayrshire has devoted many years of skill and dedication to building up the herd, which included several very sought after pure imported cow families amongst those with more traditional backgrounds. As a result the sale was supported very well by discerning purchasers who recognised the very sensible breeding and potential in the stock.

A dozen animals made over 1,000gns and reached a top of 1,300gns for an IV-Ann Mark Tesk cow from Changuefarm Blackstar Lola PI ET EX90-2. She sold dry and due soon with her third calf. Close behind at 1,250gns was a fresh second calved cow Garrallan Doreen 29 GP82 by a homebred Titan x Mascot Joy bull and from the Smellows Doreen line. Other Lolas’s were also in keen demand, including several true Red and White heifers. The top price in-calf heifer, at 1,100gns was for a powerful and smart daughter of Comestar Outside.

The overall trade was consistent and sensible with many buyers bidding between 700 and 900 guineas for anything recently calved or due up to two months away. The followers were also keenly bid for, especially the yearling heifers.

Averages – 92 Cows and heifers in milk and/or in calf £735.94; 79 served heifers £553.44 and 65 bulling and maiden heifers and heifer calves £416.28.
