CHAMPION LEADS SOUTH DEVON TRADE

An encouraging trade resulted at the spring show and sale of South Devon cattle on Friday 27th May 2005 at Carlisle, on behalf of the South Devon Cattle Society.

Leading the sale at 2,300gns was Lumbylaw Tsar 39 from AR Lee of Alnwick, Northumberland. The events overall champion Tsar 39, a well muscled bull, was an April 2003 born son of Trewint Jubliee Junior 7 and out of a homebred cow by Lumbylaw Baron. He sold carrying a beef value of SD28 and was purchased by D & W Bowman of Bagbie, Newton Stewart.

From the same stable and selling for the next top price of 1,500gns was Lumbylaw Tsar 37 a second prize winner. Also sired by Trewint Jubilee Junior 7 and bred out of another Lumbylaw Baron daughter, Tsar 37 was successfully sold to M Orr & Son of Bangour Farm, Broxburn.

In the female section a heifer and calf outfit lead the event. Consigned by Dumfriesshire breeders Mr & Mrs AF Bell, Clifton Hilda and her bull calf sold for 1,350gns. Hilda, a Grove Brutus daughter was knocked down to Hugh Gillan of Mossburn, Wigtown.

Also joining Mr Gillan’s purchase list was another heifer and calf unit from Mr & Mrs Bell’s Clifton herd. This time is was Clifton Jenny and her February born bull calf which was purchased for 1,250gns.

Averages – 2 bulls £1,995, 23 females £908.
