EIGHTH WINTER SALE of 67 UNHALTERED PEDIGREE LIMOUSIN FEMALES
Friday 9th December 2005

Quality counts as Limousin females continue to be popular

Trading at Society Sales during 2005 finished on a high note for the Limousin breed on Friday 9th December as 48 females sold to an average of £1181 holding firm on last year’s performance.

The sale saw Silk Serena, a May 2001 born second calver from Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe, Hesket New Market, Cumbria go under the hammer for 4000gns. Sold with her heifer calf at foot – Haltcliffe Avril by prolific herd sire Sympa – she was bought by A Ewing, Drumbretton, Annan, Dumfriesshire. Mr Ewing also went on to buy further lots including the second Haltcliffe offering, the French bred cow Rika for 1600gns, as well as Millstone Oenette brought forward by DF Walker, Oxenriggs Farm, Egremont, Cumbria for 1550gns.

Second leading price of the day was the 2,850gns paid by an undisclosed buyer for Geufron Vogue. Getting the sale off to a flying start when going under the hammer for 2,000gns was the day’s very first lot Redpaths Nestle, an eight year old cow with a Beef Value of LM+35 - putting her easily in the top 1% of breed - when selling to AR Prichard, Vians Hill, St.Nicholas, Nr Cardiff. This Ronick Gains daughter and out of the French dam Rose sold PDd in calf to Gammin and was offered for auction by Dermot Small, Strathearn Farms, Nabdean, Paxton, Berwickshire.

Another Welsh buyer, this time W Jenkins of Tynewydd Farm, Groesfean, Pontclun, Cardiff purchased Redstone Ursula from Mrs BM Haslam, Fairyknowe, Eaglesfield, Dumfriesshire for 1,800gns. Redstone Ursula is a served heifer sold in calf to Eves Panama and her pedigree has Junior on the sire side and Redstone Oriana as her dam.

The solid breeding cow Rundales Pam made 1600gns. This rising seven year old ran with Rundales Utah and was sold with calf at foot. She is by Ruffland Jumbo and out of Threaphurst Lily. New owners are D & M Scott, Reedsmouth Farm, Bellingham, Northumberland.
