EARLY SEASON FIREWORKS AS RED LADIES SPARKLE!

A dazzling show and spectacular prices were the order of the day at the Red Ladies Limousin Derby at Carlisle on Friday 4th November. Great quality and strength in depth was in evidence right through the catalogue and breeders were rewarded with an excellent clearance rate sold into both new and established herds.

Shire Valhalla - 18,000gns
Shire Valhalla

Topping the sale at 18,000gns was Shire Valhalla from DB Edgar, Ousby, Penrith. This August 2004 born maiden heifer by Grahams Samson and out of Shire Renee had earlier been crowned Supreme Champion at the pre-sale Show by judge Anne Hirst of the Rombalds Herd, Goose Farm, Sutton On Forest, York. Buyers were D&M Cormack, Thirsk, N Yorks.

Going under the hammer for 14,000gns was the served heifer Glangwden Ulreka – a daughter of Paul and out of Wyreside Hazel - exhibited by CL & FE Jerman, Trefeglwys, Caersws, Powys and bought by Smiths of Bloxham for their pedigree Ironstone Herd in Oxfordshire.

Smiths of Bloxham also took home the day’s third highest price, Heathmount Ursula, another served heifer brought forward by McKinney Bros, Maghera, Co Londonderry. This Requin daughter and out of the homebred dam Heathmount Ruby made 12,000gns.

D&M Cormack paid 7,000gns for Kaprico Unique consigned by Mr & Mrs DK Wheeler, Kentisbeare, Devon. By Cockleshell Olympus and out of Kaprico Liberty this heifer sold in-calf to Ronick Rascard heads to the Cormacks’ Newstart pedigree Herd.

With the catalogue packed with quality lots, the Red Ladies Derby drew a strong trade as a consequence with served heifers averaging £3956 - up £1460 on the year! 53 of the 65 lots forward were sold with a clearance rate of 81%.
