BRISTOL SALE of LIMOUSIN CATTLE

SOUTH WESTERN LIMOUSIN BREEDERS CLUB SALE

A strong trade shone through for the South West Limousin Breeders Club summer sale at Bristol Sales Centre on Tuesday 12th July 2005 with prices reaching up to 2,200gns.

A cow and calf unit from the Quaish reduction sale on behalf of Nick and Lisa Hill secured the leading price tag. One of the herds brood cows, Quaish Molly and her Nenuphar bull calf at foot Quaish Aquarius attracted strong intereset and was purchased by an undisclosed buyer.

Also from Nick and Lisa Hill selling 1,700gns was Quaish Starburst a Laverock Nimrod bred daughter and her heifer calf, Quaish Velvet a daughter of the herds stock bull Quaish Jack The Lad. This young outfit was sold to WW & S Edwards of Orchard House Farm, Congresbury, Bristol.

Also selling at 1,700gns was an incalf heifer, Quaish Umadame, a daughter of the imported sire Malibu and out of the homebred cow Quaish Missmadame. This stylish heifer goes to join the Brayhills herd based at Barnstaple, north Devon for John, Nick and Margaret Thorne.

Also reaching up to 1,700gns was an outfit from JH Neale & Son of Wilkie Down, Launceston, Cornwall. Nealford Sportyspice, a Scorboro Mallard bred second calver with her April 2005 born bull calf at foot, Nealford Arthur was knocked down to MJG & DR Richards of South View Farm, Nr Bridgewater, Somerset.

The junior male champion from the recent Royal Cornwall Show led the bull section at 2,000gns. Consigned by Patrick Greed of Columbjohn Farm, Exeter, Killerton Vulture, a January 2004 born homebred bull sired by a Hortensia son Killerton Paddy, and carrying a beef value of LM+28, he sold to PA Smith of Moated Grange, Louth Lincs.

Pembrokeshire breeder Martin Gethin of Letterston, Haverfordwest, sold his bull for 1,800gns. Ardbrack USA, a December 2003 born son of Haltcliffe Egidius and out of a Greensons Gigolo bred mother, he was secured by G & A Williams of South Wales.

Averages – 7 bulls £1,537.86, 26 cows served and/or suckling £870.69, 12 bulling and maiden heifers £824.25, Quaish reduction sale – 9 cows served and/or suckling £1,464.16, 4 maiden heifers £958.13, 2 bulls £1,522.50.
