Borderway Mart saw a fantastic trade for pedigree Limousin females with 58 animals going under the hammer at an impressive average of £1636 on the occasion of the sale from the Wintles Herd on behalf of Messrs FT Bedell & Son, The Linch House, Bishops Castle, Shropshire & the dispersal sale on behalf of Mr RL Bellis, Pant Seiri Fawr, Glynarthen, Llandysull, Ceredigion. Trade was particularly strong for young female stock with 50 lots of heifers averaging £1441. Bidding was brisk throughout the sale as buyers sought out Oursin & Officier sired heifers from the Wintles consignment and cows from the Bettws herd sold in calf to top Limousin bloodlines such as Broadmeadows Cannon or Nenuphar as well as Jockey and Ronick Hawk daughters with calves at foot.
The 3 top prices went to the Bettws Herd and leading the trade at 5,500gns was the memorable Smithston Sally, a March 2001 born cow by Cockleshell Jarrow and out of Hartside Lizzie. Presented as AI’d to Broadmeadows Cannon and having subsequently run with Wilodge Tufty, she sold into the Raysonhall Herd of D&V Hill, Whitewall, Great Asby, Cumbria for 5,500gns. Smiths of Bloxham, Newlands Farm, Milton Rd, Bloxham, Oxon paid 4,000gns for Smithston Sherry, another Cockleshell Jarrow daughter this time out of Daydream Ivette, sold AI’d to Nenuphar. Peter Smith continued the expansion of his Ironstone Limousin herd with the purchase of 2 of the top lots from the Wintles consignment: 3,000gns for Wintles Ufortythree, an October born Officier daughter and out of homebred dam Wintles Royale as well as 2,000gns for Wintles Ugreta, May 2003 born by Seaview Oscar and out of Wintles Margaret. Heading the Wintles trade was the 3,400gns Wintles Ulivia, a two year old heifer by the Nenuphar son, Oursin, and out of the 7 year old Wintles cow Olivia. Purchaser was J Thomson, Hilton of Beath Farm, Kelty, Fife for his herd with the Beath prefix. Going under the hammer for 2,800gns to E & EJ Sims, Edgefields Farm, Stockton Brook, Staffs who run the Simse Limousin herd, was Wintles Upsilon, an Officier daughter born April 2004 and out of Wintles Rosebud. Knocked down to AH Roberts, Hafod Las, Ysbyty Ifan, Betws Y Coed, Gwynedd for 3,500gns and 3,100gns respectively were a mother, daughter and grand-daughter trio from the Bettws Herd. At 3,500gns was Seevor Tania a 2002 born first-calver with heifer calf Bettws April at foot. Tania is by Ronick Hawk and out of Creedy Medley. At the other end of the age spectrum was another fine breeding cow, Creedy Medley herself, born 1996 by Grange Escort and out of Creedy Eva. A bid of 2,800 secured Fleenasnagael Sadie for KD Harryman’s Keskadale Herd of Newlands Valley, Keswick. Sadie is a daughter of Wilodge Nowtakenowt and out of Fleenasnagael Nan and was sold with calf at foot, Bettws Annie, an Oxygene daughter.
