Limousins sold well on Tuesday 26th April 2005 at the Bristol Sales Centre with females in particular commanding the trade.

Loosebeare Union, Champion Male

A very smart young heifer from Nick and Lisa Hill of the Quaish herd from Cheddar, Somerset led the sale at 2,500gns. Quaish Ulerberlu, a November 2003 daughter of the noted French AI sire Nenuphar and out of a Laverock Nimrod bred mother, she sold to W Jenkins for his Tynewydd herd based at Pontyclun, Cardiff.

The Supreme Champion of the pre-sale judging secured the next top price tag of 2,000gns. Loosebeare Union, an April 2003 son of Windyhill Omally and bred from an outstanding cow in the herd, Higginshayes Lilac, a Talent granddaughter. Consigned by EW Quick & Sons of Crediton, Devon the bull sold to G Greenow for his Blaenau herd at Crickhowell, Powys.

The next entry into the sale ring attracted a bid of 1,900gns for Bailea Urigeller a May 2003 born bull from MT Jones of Sennybridge, Brecon. Sired by the herds French stock bull Ocelot and out of a Greensons Gigolo mother, Urigeller was purchased by Kembery Bros of Camerton, Nr Bath.

An entry from JH Neale of Wilkie Down, Launceston, Cornwall sold their homebred February 2003 bull for 1,800gns. Nealford Umar, sired by a Jockey son and out of one of the breeds noted brood cows Sarkley Pandora, sold to MJG & DE Richards for their Wortheal herd at Bridgwater, Somerset.

A very stylish maiden heifer from Bapton Manor Farm Ltd sold to 1,650gns. Bapton Uther, judged as the Champion Female on the day, carries a beef value of LM+29 and combines two outstanding breeding cow families in her pedigree of the Bapton herd namely the Iris and Jenny families. She sold to TB & CD Griffiths of Carmarthen.

Close behind at 1,600gns was a maiden heifer from Buriton Estates Ltd. Miscombe Upup, a Genial daughter out of a Tarvis mother, she was purchased by W Jenkins of Pontyclun, Cardiff.

In the commercial section a Limousin cross Belgian Blue steer sold for £1,000. Consigned by Geoff and Caroline Hollow of St.Ives, Cornwall, this very attractive September 2004 born show steer sired by Bapton Trooper caught the attention of many buyers and was finally sold to DI Parry of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.

David Thomlinson, auctioneer commented that the sale showed confidence in the beef industry and prices were solid throughout and that the Bristol Sales Centre is enhancing its reputation with each sale.

Averages – 5 bulls £1,743.00, 6 cows and heifers served and/or suckling £893.38, 8 maiden heifers £1,450.31.
