Brockhurst Limousins attract top bid of 5,000gns

A young imported bull sired by Jersey topped the on-farm sale for Brockhurst Limousins on Saturday for WJ & M Mash Ltd at Torrington Farm, Chesham. The very stylist bull Truffaut, by the same sire as the world record price bull, Grahams Samson, sold for 5,000gns to pedigree breeders Buriton Estates Ltd of the Miscombe herd based at Petersfield, Hants.

Another bull sold for the next leading price tag of 4,000gns. Brockhurst Torrington, a class winner at the Royal Welsh Show, is an April 2003 son from the noted show winning cow Ronick McAinsi and by Brockhurst Premier. He was sold to CV Lewis & Sons to join their Garyvaughan herd near Welshpool.

Staying with the line up of bulls, Brockhurst Tasmania followed next selling for 3,800gns. He was by the herds well known show stock bull Ronick Matador and is bred from a home bred cow Ousha. Tasmania was succussfully sold to RF Turner & Son of Bassingbourn Farm, Ely.

Selling for 2,800gns was Brockhurst Paradise with her heifer calf at foot. Paradise is another Matador sired animal and is bred out of a Mereside Crackerjack daughter. She sold with her November 2003 calf at foot, Brockhurst Unanimous, to an undisclosed buyer.

Swindon breeders, JJ & BD Comer from the Moonleaze herd based at Braydon, successfully bought two lots. The first at 2,600gns was Brockhurst Ustica, an Espoir son out of an imported cow Untile. Their second purchase at 2,400gns was Brockhurst Malone a fifth calved cow with her heifer calf at foot. Malone is a Fiston bred cow whose breeding goes back to Canfield on her mothers side, and her autumn 2003 calf at foot was by Ronick Lenor.

A Malone daughter by Ronick Lenor, Brockhurst Phoebe, sold for 2,600gns. With her heifer calf at foot, Brockhurst Unveil, the outfit was knocked down to an undisclosed buyer.

In the maiden heifer section, the leading price was 2,500gns. Brockhurst Ultimate, an April 2003 born daughter by Ronick Right and out of Knockenbaird Irma, she sold to David and Sheila Thomlinson of the Beeches herd based at Scaleby, near Carlisle.

Also selling for 2,500gns was Brockhurst Thorn, a September 2002 born bull by Ronick Matador and out of Lumbylaw Newsflash, a Wilodge Leopold daughter. He was knocked down to BJ Smith of Wellsbourne, Warwickshire.

In the commercial section many outfits sold well and were offered up to £1,120 for a Belgian Blue cross cow with a show type calf at foot and were sold to MA Mainwaring of Oteley, Ellesemere.
