CHATSWORTH LIMOUSIN HEIFER LEADS
CARLISLE TRADE AT 5200GNS

Chatsworth Sapphire, a first calved heifer at 5200gns was the top price at a Limousin Breeders’ Sale of mainly heifers held at Carlisle on Friday 8th October 2004. In all, 71 heifers, suckling, served, maiden and yearlings, and five cows, from three pedigree herds, were sold on the day to gross a healthy £102,300.

Featuring were production offerings from the Chatsworth Herd on behalf of Chatsworth Settlement, Stud Farm, Pilsley, Bakewell, Derbyshire, the Airtnoch Herd of Mr John J Templeton, Airtnoch, Fenwick, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire and a Major Reduction offering from the Withersdale Herd of Mr DC Wharton, Willow Farm, Withersdale Street, Harleston, Norfolk.

The top priced animal, Chatsworth Sapphire, was a January 2001 born first calved heifer sired by Hartside Nelson and out of Chatsworth Magic. She was sold with her February born heifer calf at foot, Chatsworth Vivian, sired by Grange Ovipare. Purchasers were Messrs Prime Bros, who run the Forestside pedigree herd at Forest Farm, Swinscote, Nr Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

Selling at 3200gns was Chatsworth Solo. Again, a January 2001 born heifer, Solo was sired by Grange Ovipare, a son of the French bull Gabarit and was out of Chatsworth One. Her heifer calf at foot was Chatsworth Volvo, a January 2004 born daughter of Harrison Sanyo. This outfit was bought by Alan Myerscough, The Ellars, Ulverston, Cumbria and was one of several purchases made on the day for Mr. Myerscough’s Tallyrock pedigree herd.

Chatsworth Sunshine later sold to the same home for 2200gns. By the Normande Jack son, Dyfri Nabucco, and out of Chatsworth Magnolia, this May 2001 born heifer was sold with Grange Ovipare sired heifer calf at foot, the January 2001 born Chatsworth Vicky.

WG Wilkinson, Tibberthwaite Farm, Coniston, Cumbria also paid 2200gns for Chatsworth Shamrock. This Hartside Nelson daughter out of the Marden Umph sired Chatsworth Fountain was January 2001 born. She was sold with her January 2004 born heifer calf at foot, Chatsworth Vine.

A further animal at the same price was Chatsworth Sienna. A daughter of Dyfri Nabucco and out of Chatsworth Nellie this April 2001 born heifer was sold with her January 2004 born heifer calf at foot, Chatsworth Vienna who was sired by Grange Ovipare. Sienna and her calf were purchased by PA Smith, Prince Gate Farm, Rossendale, Lancashire for his Palraine pedigree herd.

The Major Reduction offering from the Withersdale Herd saw a good trade and a healthy top price paid of 3500gns for Withersdale Serena. This July 2001 born heifer was sired by the Broadmeadows Cannon son Haltcliffe Hercules and was out of Kidsnape Nora. She was sold with her bull calf at foot, Withersdale Voyeur, a February 2004 son of Haltcliffe Novel. The purchaser was S Wilde, Spite Winter House, Bradfield, Nr Sheffield for his Ewdenvale pedigree herd.

Withersdale Sapphire made 3200gns when selling to earlier purchaser Alan Myerscough. This May 2001 born heifer was again sired by Haltcliffe Hercules and was out of Calrossie Ibelle. She was sold with her heifer calf at foot, Withersdale Venus, a January 2004 calf by Greenwell Major.

The same purchaser paid 2300gns for Kidsnape Nora, a seven year old cow with a calving record of four calves. Bred by Messrs L&M Pawson, Kidsnape Farm, Inglewhite Road, Goosnargh, Nr. Preston, this female was sired by Mereside Crackerjack son Marnhull Hercules and is out Kidsnape Heather. She was sold in-calf to the bull Loganburn Stirling.
