8,100 GNS LEADING PRICE FOR REDSTONE HERD

George Haslam with his wife Beryl's nine year old cow Redrock Leanne which sold for the top price of 8,100gns. The cow, with her seventh calf at foot, the three month old heifer Redstone Vienna, sold to the cow's breeders, Steadman and Judy Dodd, who are re-building their Redrock herd after losing their cattle during foot and mouth.

Harrison & Hetherington’s well-attended Pedigree Limousin Breeders’ Sale on Monday 23rd August 2004 comprised Production sales from the Preselihill Herd of Messrs Vaughan, Crymych, Dyfed, the Ardbrack Herd of M Gethin, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire and the Normande Herd of N & E Cruickshank, Cleghorn, Lanarkshire together with a major reduction sale from the Redstone Herd of Mrs BM Haslam, Lockerbie, Dumfries. Guest consignor was S & GA Potter of the Westside Herd.

Topping the sale at 8,100gns was Redrock Leanne and her excellent heifer calf Redstone Vienna sired by Redstone Rossini. A cow with tremendous muscle and temperament, she returns home to her original breeders JS & JO Dodd, Temple Sowerby, Penrith.

Following them into the ring was another tremendous unit Redstone Maxine with her bull calf at foot, Redstone Vax by the French sire Junior. 8,000gns was the price paid to join the Highbarn Herd of RA Walker, Appleby, Cumbria.

The Ardbrack Herd saw a top price of 5,000gns for Persanne by leading French breeder Gaec Manaud-Giroux. With heifer calf at foot, Ardbrack Vingtetun by Haltcliffe Ediguis and in calf to Mas du Clo by AI this cow born January 1999 was imported as a yearling and is by the noted sire Espoir. New owner is J Taggart, Ballasalla, Isle of Man. Young bull Ardbrack Uneedim born March 2003 sired by Mas du Clo and out of dam Ardbrack Lavender was knocked down to M Irving, Carlisle, Cumbria for 3,200gns.

The highest price for the Normande Herd’s consignment went to the 3 year 10 month old stock bull Ramier at 3,500gns. Bought in France as a young calf, Ramier is by Ideal 19, the sire of Nestor and Grahams Poncho. Purchased by S W Thornber & Sons, Clitheroe, Lancashire he joins their Templewood Herd. 13 maiden heifers averaged an impressive £1264.04 with Normande Urred the outstanding pick at 1,800gns sold to S Ewart & Sons, Torthorwald, Dumfries.

Leading the way for the Preselihill Herd were Preselihill Narcissus with her twin heifer calves at foot, Preselihill Viv and Vesta sired by Dyfri Patriot and Preselihill Rosalin with heifer calf Preselihill Val again by Dyfri Patriot. 2,800gns was the price paid by J & G Burrough, Whitchurch, Shropshire and D & M Cormack, Thirsk, North Yorkshire respectively.

Westside Rose with her bull calf Westside Unionjack made 3,000gns for guest consignor S & GA Potter selling to Messrs White, Helston, Cornwall.
