SOUTH WESTERN LIMOUSIN BREEDERS CLUB
Sale Pedigree Limousin & Limousin Cross Cattle

Monday 12th July 2004

REPORT

LIMOUSIN PRICES SOAR AT BRISTOL

Limousin cattle were in demand at the South West Club Breeders sale when both pedigree and cross bred cattle came under the hammer at the Bristol Sales Centre on Monday 12th July 2004.

Leading the sale at 4,600gns was a pedigree cow and calf outfit from Nick and Lisa Hill of Decoy Pool Farm, Cheddar. The home bred pairing of Quaish Princess, a Djerk daughter, and her heifer calf, Quaish Vawk, attracted the eye of Mr & Mrs DK Wheeler who bought them both to join their Rosecroft Herd based at Kentisbeare, Nr Cullompton.

Mr & Mrs Wheeler also secured the next leading price of 3,000gns for a heifer and calf outfit from WL & GW Hollow of Chytodden Farm, St.Ives. Chytodden Saffron sold with her March born heifer calf Verity.

Selling for 2,100gns was Windwhistle Polyanna and her heifer calf Spyway Volyanna from PA & PM Earley of the Spyway herd based at Swanage, Dorset. Polyanna, a 3rd calving Mereside Filipo daughter was knocked down to Mrs M Rees of Gellisifor Farm, Ammanford, Dyfed.

Topping the bull section at 2,000gns was a March 2003 born son of Waindale On the move, consigned by AG & VD Herbert of The Close, Hereford. Shelwick Ultra, no stranger to the show ring, had most recently been placed at the Three Counties show. He was sold to JB & VA Hicks of Wootton Bassett, Swindon.

In the commercial classes, a very stylish Limousin cross Belgian Blue heifer consigned by M Smith of Cotters Close, Cullompton, sold for the the top price figure of £1,720. After much spirited bidding around the ring she was finally knocked down to RA & MD Butler of Thatcham.

An unregistered Limousin cow and calf from PA & PM Earley of Spyway Farm lifted the next price tag in the commercials at £1,300. They sold to S & W Ball of Wotton under Edge, Glos.

An eyecatching cow and calf outfit from CF & WE Richens of White House Farm, Axbridge, realised £1,250 and went to AWJ Hiller, Norbin Farm, Nr Corsham.

Also selling up to £1,200 was another unregistered cow and calf from PA & PM Earley which sold to MJ Wells & Son of One Ash Grange, Bakewell.
