SALE REPORT

Pedigree Limousin youngstock sold to a top of 3,100gns on Wednesday 28th May 2003 at the collective sale conducted by Harrison & Hetherington Limited, Carlisle.

The Hudscales and Glenrock herds annual production sale was joined by consignments from seven other pedigree breeders from across the UK to make up a catalogued entry of just over 100 youngstock.

Topping the sale at 3,100gns was Hudscales Thor from William Cowx of Hudscales, Hesket-new-Market. Thor, a very muscly son of Sarkley OJ, was knocked down to John Templeton of Airtnoch, Kilmarnock.

Also from the Hudscales herd selling at 2,200gns was Hudscales Thumper, a May 2002 born bull by Sarkley OJ. Out of one of the biggest breeding cows in the herd, Thumper was sold to Dent Bros, of Naby View, Barnard Castle.

Leading the Glenrock entries at 1,100gns was Glenrock Tomthumb from Stephen and Helen Illingworth herd at Howgillside, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie. Tomthumb, an April 2002 bull by Tygwyn Picalo, sold to Mrs SE Jackson of The Cottage, Brandesburton, Driffield.

An 11 month old bull topped the consignment from the Beck herd for William Hickson of Knarrside Farm, Colne. Beck Thorby by the home bred bull Beck Padney sold for 2,000gns to W Lockhart & Son of Laggan Park, Dumfries.

Local breeders, Messrs Jenkinson of Clifton Moor Farm, Penrith successfully bought Redstone Tweed a June 2002 heifer by the French bull Junior, for 2,000gns. Tweed topped the entries from the Redstone herd for Mrs B Haslam of Treetops, Eaglesfield. Close behind at 1,900gns from the Redstone herd was Redstone Tabago an 8 month old bull calf sired by Malibu. He was knocked down to JJ Crosier of Whin Hill House, Clitheroe.

Ardbrack Special topped the entries for Martin Gethin’s Ardbrack herd from Cnwc Y Morfol, Haverfordwest. Special, an incalf heifer by the noted imported sire Ferry, sold for 1,450gns to JC & SE Little of The Guards, Ireby Carlisle.

The three remaining guest consignors all produced a top price of 1,000gns. Firstly from the Hafodlas herd of AH & GW Robert, Betws-Y-Coed with a 12 month old bull Hafodlas Trystan. He sold to HF Little & Sons of Castle Kennedy, Stranraer.

Vince Corbett’s Temeside herd at The Gorther, Nr Knighton also had a top price of 1,000gns for a heifer, Temeside Tabitha by Marton Pat. She sold to Messrs Jenkinson of Penrith.

Mrs Ann Thompson’s Tunnelby herd from Beechwood, Nr Crewe took the other 1,000gn bid with her bull Tunnelby Trumpet, a grandson of Muirhouse Lagonda and Ronick Hawk. He sold to W Templeton & Son of Glenlaugh, Auldgirth, Dumfries.

Glenrock herd: 3 bulls £997.50, 5 heifers £682.50
Ardbrack herd: 6 bulls £1,076.25, 7 heifers £1,030.50, 5 non-registered heifers £487.20
Beck herd: 8 bulls £990.94
Hafodlas herd: 3 bulls £892.50
Temeside herd: 1 bull £630.00, 5 heifers £707.70
Redstone herd: 4 bulls £1,181.25, 2 heifers £1,968.75
Tunnelby herd: 1 bull £1,050.00, 4 heifers £884.36.
