Saturday 29th November 2003
REPORT

Sarkley LimousinA tremendous turnout at the eighth Sarkley production sale of Limousin calves helped to create an excellent trade, which saw prices peek at 6000gns for a March born bull calf, and a whopping average for 28 bull calves.

Top of the tree was March born bull, Sarkley Utmost, a son of the French bull, Moero and out of the full genetic sister to the dam of Sarkley Sebastion, which sold for 23,000gns at the May Limousin sale in Carlisle. Sarkley Oriano, mother of Utmost is a former 1st prizewinner at the Royal Welsh show in 2000. Utmost traveled back into Wales with new owners Messrs Thomas, Bryn Farm, home of the Nebo herd.

The heifers on offer also provided a brisk trade with two calves sharing the top spot of 3600gns. First to do so was Sarkley Uvette, which saw SM McGurkin take home the first Nestor daughter into Northern Ireland. This smart heifer, out of Sarkley Marietta, a Ronick Gains sired cow, is in the top 25% of the breed with a beef value of LM+20

Also making 3600gns was Sarkley Ullaloo, selling to AJ Ewing, Drumbretton, Annan. Ullaloo, by a Sarkley bred bull, Sarkley Moonlight, and on the dam lines goes back to Sarkley Esmarelda, which was also the grand dam to the 23,000gns bull, Sarkley Sebastian.
