SALE REPORT

Lumbylaw saleringThe final sale from the noted pedigree Lumbylaw Limousin herd took place on Saturday 24th May 2003, at Carlisle on behalf of RG Oates (Lumbylaw) Ltd.

Securing the top price of the sale at 6,800gns was senior herd sire Lumbylaw Pen and Paper. A Fedneyhouse Nelson son and out of a Goldies Reservoir daughter, he was successfully purchased by Devon breeders MM Gollop & Sons for the Sloughpool herd at Willand, Cullompton.

The crowded ringside of buyers were priviledged to have exhibited before them an excellent selection of cattle with a wealth and depth of breeding. Many purchasers present returned to acquire Lumbylaw breeding for their herds, but there was also many new customers.

The next leading price tag was 5,000gns for Lumbylaw Naïve a Lumbylaw Honkytonk daughter going back to Fieldhouse Earthman on her dams pedigree. Selling with her heifer calf at foot, Lumbylaw Teviot by Kype Orkney, the unit was knocked down to A & E Vance of Bridgehouse Farm, Newton Stewart.

Selling for 4,500gns was Lumbylaw Seaweed an April 2001 born bull by the noted Haltcliffe Hercules and out of a Goldies Thriller bred dam. Seaweed sold locally to Edenhall Estates Ltd at Penrith. Close behind at 4,200gns was Lumbylaw Simplyred, a son of Fedneyhouse Nelson out of a Wilodge Leopold daughter and selling to Messrs Munro of Pitmain, Fife.

Next in line was Lumbylaw Sebastion selling for 3,800gns. Born April 2001 and sired by Haltcliffe Hercules, Sebastion was knocked down to borders enthusiast DC MacTaggart of Hallrule, Hawick.

A lovely yearling heifer, Lumbylaw Tigress by Kype Orkney, sold for 3,600gns to P Hill of Old Hall Farm, Whitby. Also selling for 3,600gns was an April 2001 born bull, Lumbylaw Saul sired by Balfunninf Maxim, going to JH Johnson of Whitelea Farm, Crook.

A second calver, Lumbylaw Openhearted and her heifer calf Lumbylaw Tizzy, sold for 3,400gns to the Brockhurst herd of WJ & M Mash Ltd of Torrington Farm, Chesham.

Local breeders, TW & J Hunter of the Low Abbey herd based near Annan, secured Lumbylaw Magnolia and her bull calf for 3,200gns. Also selling up to the 3,000gns mark was Lumbylaw Ladyfair and her heifer calf Lumbylaw Topaz. The unit travels north to join the Clury herd of WF Cruickshank & Sons at Grantown on Spey.
