BARRONS BULL TOPS LIMOUSIN PEDIGREE SALE AT 8000GNS

A sale of pedigree Limousin cattle, from five respective herds, saw a good trade for 102 lots sold and a top price paid of 8000gns for a four-year-old bull. The sale was held at Carlisle’s Borderway Market on 19th November 2003.

The top price came out of the sale from the Barrons herd of Mr W Barron, Morrow Edge Farm, Burnhope, Co. Durham. Waindale Prime, a November 1999 born son of Waindale Jackpot, made the 8000gns price when selling to the Grahams pedigree herd of Robert Graham, Airthrey Kerse, Bridge of Allan, Stirling. Mr.Graham was drawn to this bull, out of the dam Waindale Mull, by the quality of his progeny both bulls and females. Three further cattle earlier in the Barrons portion were also purchased for the Grahams herd. Newacres Nadine, registered under Mr. Barrons original prefix, was purchased for 3,400gns. This six-year-old cow is by the Broadmeadows Cannon son Carse Icarus and is out of Newacres Gold. She was sold in calf to Waindale Prime. Newacres Lynsey, the same way bred as Newacres Nadine, sold for 3,000gns. Again, she was sold in-calf to Waindale Prime. Mr.Graham’s third purchase was Barrons Rose for 3200gns. This three and a half year old female in-calf with her second calf, is by Windyhill Listz out of the Talent sired Ronick Goodietoo.

Including the top price the three bulls sold from the Barrons herd averaged a very acceptable £5460. Barrons Tyson, a March 2002 son of Waindale Prime sold for 4100gns to S Ewart & Sons, Belridding, Torthorwald, Dumfries. This young bull, out of Newacres Nadine, carried a beef value of LM+22. The previous lot, Barrons Tait, had sold for 3,500gns to RW Rowlinson, Musden Grange, Ilam, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Again March 2002 born and again by Waindale Prime, this bull was out of the Carse Icarus sired Newacres Maxine.

Newacres Maxine herself was sold for 2900gns to LJ Williams & Ptrs, The Woodlands, Docklow, Leominster, Hereford. Maxine is a 1996 born cow, out of Newacres Ivy, who has reared five calves. She was sold in-calf to Waindale Prime.

Barrons Rusty, a February 2000 born female in-calf with her second calf, made 3200gns when selling to Messrs Thomas, Bryn Farm, Nebo, Llanwrst. This lady was by Windyhill Listz and is out of Newacres Nadine.

Mr D Bell, Collectors’ Investments Ltd, Ednaston Lodge Farm, Ednaston, Ashbourne, Derbyshire put forward a production sale from his Ednaston pedigree herd. Selling all fifteen lots offered, Mr. Bell’s top price was 3500gns paid for the first calved heifer Ednaston Ravishing. This April 2000 born female was sired by the French bull Intox, a son of Bambino and is out of the Tarvis sired French female Irvine. She was sold with her March born bull calf at foot, Ednaston Ultravox, to Prime Brothers, Forrest Farm, Swincote, Nr. Ashbourne, Derbyshire for their Forestside pedigree herd.

The sale also featured a dispersal of the Rodcourt herd on behalf of Messrs JW Foot & Sons, Rodsley Court Farm, Rodsley, Nr. Brailsford, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. A solid trade was topped at 2800gns paid for the four-and-a-half year old cow Rodcourt Pleaseme. This female was sired by Ronick Hawk and out of Rodcourt Lesley, a MMB Bonheur sired cow. Pleaseme carried a high beef value of LM+32 and was sold with her bull calf at foot, the Rodcourt Rix sired Rodcourt Unfix. Purchaser was David Stobart who runs the Cracrop pedigree herd at Cracrop, Kirkcambeck, Brampton, Cumbria.
