30,000Gns Top Price at Carlisle Limousin Sale
The second highest price paid for a Limousin bull in the United Kingdom, 30,000gns,
was the lead price in a strong day’s trading at the British Limousin
Cattle Society’s October bull sale at Borderway Market, Carlisle on Saturday
18th October.
129 bulls, an increase of seven on the year, sold to an average of £3510.65
again up £320 on the corresponding sale. Nineteen bulls sold for 6000gns
or more with three at 12,000gns or more. The clearance rate of bulls sold was
61% of the 210 forward.

Wilodge Tonka, a January 2002 born calf, bred and sold by DA Williams, Lodge
Hill Farm took the spectacular top price when selling to the 200 head pedigree
herd of Paul Dawes, Kipperknowle Farm, Dinmore Manor, Herefordshire.
This exceptional bull had been the young star of the summer show
circuit having won the breed’s junior championships at both the Royal and Royal Welsh
shows along with the junior interbreed titles and the Marks & Spencer Beefbreeder
titles at the same shows. Tonka was sired by the William’s French stock
bull, Oxygene and is out of the proven Wilodge Meclaire.
Perthsire farmer Peter Alexander, Mains of Mause, Blairgowrie,
paid the second top price of 15,000gns for the bull Graham’s Trooper. The bull, bred and
sold by Robert Graham, Airthrey Kerse, Bridge of Allan, Stirling, is to be used
exclusively on the Alexander’s commercial herd of _ bred and above Limousin
females and was selected with a view to breeding female replacements in a closed
herd. This April 2002 born bull was sired by Grahams Poncho and is out of the
French bred cow Habitude.
The third five figure price was paid to Mr and Mrs D Hill, Whitewall,
Great Asby, Appleby, Cumbria. Their April 2002 born bull, Raysonhall
Treker, the pre-sale
show’s overall reserve champion made 12,000gns when selling to the pedigree
herd of Jack Neale, Wilkie Down, Launceston, Cornwall. Treker was sired by
Haltcliffe Novel and is out of Hartside Oona.
Two bulls sold at 9500gns. The first was Tomschoice Tom, a March 2002 born bull
from Jamie Cooper, Hill Top Farm, Dacre, Harrogate. This Saunders Logo sired
bull was purchased by breeder Chris Jerman for his Glangwden herd in Trefeglwys,
Caersws, Powys.
Ten lots later, Fleethill Talisman from Michael Gray, Great Cellws, Crossgates,
Llandrindod Wells, mad the same price when selling to Mr J Irving, Brahead, Eaglesfield,
Lockerbie.
