pedigree beef cattle / limousin / unhaltered
limousin society UNHALTERED LIMOUSIN FEMALES
Thursday 12th June 2003
REPORT

A catalogue of 75 cattle saw prices peak at 2100gns at the unhaltered Pedigree Limousin female sale at Carlisle on Thursday 12th June 2003.

The sale, which showed lower averages, proved to be a bonus for those hoping to start up within the breed

Fifteen of the lots went back to Lower Core farm, Bleasdale, Preston where WP Brewer & Sons are setting up a brand new herd. The Brewers were taken out by FMD in 2001, and have been looking for the best way forwards since.
"We went to North Sheep, at Richmond, and saw the quality of the cattle on show there on the Farm Tour, and decided that was what we wanted to try," said Mr Brewer. The 15 yearling heifers they bought, which were up to a top of 900gns, takes the total bought within the last week to 18, adding to the three they bought at the Wilodge dispersal sale last week, where they paid a top of 1100gns. for a yearling heifer. The Brewers will be looking to add a bull to the fledgling herd next spring.

Scorboro Tiara

Top price for the day was paid for Scorboro Tiara, a 15-month-old heifer from JCG Bloom and Son, Decoy Farm, Driffield. This Lonesco daughter, with some excellent bloodlines behind her has a beef value of LM28. John Murray was the final bidder, taking her back to Glebe Farm, Westbutsfield, Tow Law, where he runs a small pedigree herd alongside his 80 head of suckler cattle, all bulled with the Limousin.
"I have been looking for a good heifer since the end of FMD" says John, "but haven't been able to afford what I have been looking at, but patience finally paid off!" The heifer will probably be served with some Goldie’s Oswald semen.

Two lots were close behind on 2000gns. The first, Barrons Orchid from W Barron, Burnhope, Co. Durham, was sold with her heifer calf, Unice at foot, to A Myerscough, Ulverston, Cumbria. Mr Myerscough also bought Newsham Nie from W Barron. Nie was bred by G Westgarth, Newsham Hall, Richmond, and sold with her heifer calf, Barrons Usk for 1750gns.

Also making 200gns was 1st calver, Loughhead Ruth, an Oakley Asterix daughter from J&E Pattison, Blackford, Carlisle, with her Bull calf Loughhead Trevor at foot. The pair sold to Mr Wilkinson, Northdene Farm, Out Rawcliffe, Preston.

Top priced heifer was Kaprico Soleil, from Messrs Stafford, Tyne & Wear. Soleil, a Greensons Gigolo daughter, is a stylish heifer, and her dam, Kaprico Premiere is a full sister to Kaprico Neon, which was sold for 5200gns, and was shown as a yearling, winning up to a reserve Championship. Soleil sold for 1800gns to Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor Farm, Clifton, Penrith.

Averages
13 Cows and heifers served and/or suckling £1,328.65
50 Bulling and maiden heifers £ 875.55
