LOOSEBEARE BULL TOPS OPENING BRISTOL LIMOUSIN SALE AT 3000GNS

A top price of 3000gns was the highlight of the British Limousin Cattle Society's first official sale at the Bristol Sale Centre, Washingpool, Bristol. From a small catalogue, eleven bulls were sold in all to total to a useful average of £1818.41

Taking the leading bid was Loosebeare Shiner, a 20-month-old bull from Andrew & Mark Quick, Loosebeare Manor, Zeal Monachorum, Crediton, Devon. This stylish Balfunning Javelin son had earlier secured the pre-sale show's Supreme Champion rosette from judge Richard Jones, Llwynobin Farm, Montgomery, Powys. Staying in the South West, Loosebeare Shiner was bought by Mr CA Jarvis, Church Farm, Priddy, Nr. Wells, Somerset and will be used predominantly on commercial Limousin heifers and also on the Priddy pedigree Limousin herd.

The second top price of 2300gns was achieved by Patrick Greed, Columbjohn, Rewe, Exeter with Killerton Stuart. This July 2001 born bull is by Grange Nawaz, a Gabarit son and is out of the cow Lownthwaite Claire. Purchasing this bull was FJ Hobbs & Son, Rectory Farm, North Crawley, Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes.

The third bull at over 2000gns was the Reserve Supreme Champion Ryedale Swain bred by Lang Partners, Broadway Foot, Hawnby, York and offered by R G Clatworthy, Coxhill Farm, North Newton, Bridgwater, Somerset. Sired by Ronick Iceman, a maternal brother of Broadmeadows Cannon, this November 2001 born bull was purchased by SJ Clatworthy, Court Farm Butchers, Puriton, Bridgwater, Somerset.

Douglas Collins, Brickhill, Spinney Farm, Harborough Road, Boughton, Northants had a classy line-up of heifers from which the show's Female Champion emerged. Brickhill Starburst, a March 2001 heifer, sired by another Gabarit son, Grange Nulato, also took the top female price of 1200gns in selling to Nick Hill's Quaish herd, decoy Pool Farm, Nyland, Cheddar, Somerset.
In all, fourteen females sold to an average of £799.57.
