REPORT The official Galloway spring breeding cattle show and sale returned to Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Friday 1st March which was very kindly sponsored by Barclays Bank. The pre-sale judging was carried out by Mr R Ferguson of Nether Rusko, Gatehouse of Fleet, who awarded the overall male championship to a very stylish January 2000 born bull from Mr Robert McConnell of Gass Farm, Glenluce. Godfrey of Gass, a son of Blarcreen Expression and out of a homebred cow, sold for 800gns to Messrs PK Kennedy-Moffat & Ptr, of Lochmailing Farm, Dumfries. Also selling for 800gns was a bull from Messrs TV Blair & Son of Dodgsonstown, Roadhead, Carlisle. Sandy of Dodgsonstown, sired by McTurk of Dodgsonstown going back to the Shona female line at Dodgsonstown , was purchased by Messrs L & H Kennedy of Barron House, Gilsland, Carlisle. In the female section the regular consignment of pedigree bulling heifers from Mr Graham Noble of Demesne lifted the top show honours with his heifer Demesne Oona 280. She is a daughter of Valiant of Nether Rusko and out of a homebred cow and was knocked down to Messrs M & ME Wallace of Farney Shields, Hexham for 600gns. Also from the Demesne consignment came the next leading price at 510gns for Demesne Opal 283 going to Messrs WG & HM Kyle of Spoutbank Farm, Brampton. Following on was Demesne Omega 284, reserve female champion, selling for 500gns to Sir SF Strang-Steel, Lymiecleugh, Hawick. At the conclusion of the Galloway section was the sale of Bluegrey heifers and Belted Galloway stock with the latter being in particular demand. Averages: |
