The event kicked off with a packed ringside at the Christmas Cracker show and sale on Friday 21 November where bidding was led at 8,000gns by the champion, Sarkley Tatiana, an outstanding 16 month old maiden and within the breed's top 1% with a Beef Value of CH39. Bred by the Pennie family of Montgomery, Powys she was by their homebred bull going back to Meolfre Mecsico and out of a homebred dam by Oldstone Egbert. Tatiana went to join W Baxter's Meadowbank herd at Sound, Nantwich.

The Pennies were also in the money on Saturday when their reserve male champion, Sarkley Trojan CH35 made 5,000gns to V Allgood, Nunwick, Hexham. An 18 month old Loganbar Herdsman son, he was out of a homebred cow, a granddaughter of Maerdy Impeccable.

Other leading entries in the Christmas Cracker included Shraden Toyah CH30 selling for 2,900gns to AP Smith, Aboyne, Aberdeen. Offered by Roger Everall, Shrawardine, Shrewsbury, Toyah was an 18 month old maiden by Balthayock Nougat and out of a homebred cow going back to Balthayock Damien.

The reserve Christmas Cracker title went to Midas Susie CH28, a two year old sold in calf to Friarton Ensign. A Balthayock Matthew daughter, and out of a Glebedale bred cow, Susie was offered by another Shropshire breeder, this time Roger Coppinger, of Wem and she was secured for 2,800gns by Dick Garner and Sons, Kirkby Fleetham, Northallerton.
