Charolais peak at 3,000gns at Carlisle inaugural June fixture Charolais sold to a top of 3,000gns at Carlisle, on Wednesday 25 June 2003, at the breed societys inaugral June fixture of pedigree bulls.
Sale leader was Mowbraypark Tanner, a 14 month old by Mowbraypark Napolean and with a Beef Value within the breeds top 10% at CH25. Bred and offered by Mike and Margaret Atkinson, Kirkby Malzeard, Ripon, he sold to RH Thompson and Son, Newfield, Bishop Auckland. Next to go at 2,800gns was Maerdy Swindon CH29, a 19 month old by the full French bred Maerdy Grimaldi and out of a homebred cow from Flintshire based vet, Esmor Evans, Mold. Swindon returned to Wales with JE Williams, Tudweiliog, Pwellheli. A bid of 2,200gns secured Thrunton Silver CH18 forJWB Anderson, Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire. Sired by the 25,000gns Perth champion, Mowbraypark Orlando and out of a homebred cow going back to Blelack Jaguar, Silver was offered by the Campbell family, Colin and sons, Ian and John of Alnwick. The Campbells also led the female trade at 1,500gns with Thrunton Poppet, a December 1999 born second calver by the 20,000gns Perth class winner, Maerdy Location. She sold with her six month old heifer at foot by Mortimers Politician. The pair went to GW and L Williams, Croesor, Penrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd.
Two bulls shared a 2,000gns bid. First to go was local breeder, Dick Clark of Mosser Mains Farm, near Cockermouth with Mossermains Solo. Sired by the Welsh bred Cargriff Jeeves and out of a homebred cow, this 20 month old went home with S and E Mair, Waterbeck, Lockerbie. Back in the ring were David and Marjorie Stobart with Stobarts Stockwell CH19 from their newly restocked herd based at Brampton. Stockwell who attracted the days second 2,000gns from TN Cowan, Roadhead, Carlisle was by the Northumbrian bred Chathill Meteor and out of an Ellern bred cow. Other leading female prices included Hallbankgate Tonia CH24, a maiden heifer from Tom Bell and his son, Ian of Brampton. An Edenhurst Pioneer daughter and out of a homebred cow going back to Brampton Imperial, Tonia made 1,400gns to MR McCornick, Kirkcowan, Newton Stewart. Averages: 11 bulls £2,100; five cows served and or suckling £1,071; one served heifer £892.50; 31 maidens £639.82. |
