NEW EXHIBITOR LIFTS BLONDE TITLE

New exhibitor to the Blonde Society shows and sales, Jeremy Payner from the Drumilly herd based at Co.Armagh, N.Ireland lifted the supreme championship and junior male championship at his first effort of selling Blonde cattle at Carlisle on Friday 28th October.

His winning entry was a junior bull, Drumilly VIP an August 2004 born son of the renowned Whistley Dollar sire and bred from a Drop daughter Cromkill Ona. VIP, a very stylish young bull sold carrying a beef value of BA21 and had a muscle depth of 96 and a score of 13 at only twelve and a half months old. Selling for 2,600gns he now joins the Egerton herd of Messrs Jones and Garratt, Ashford, Kent.

Lifting the leading price of the event was Doncombe Volcanic who sold for 6,000gns and was shown by regular consignor, David Knight of Coombe Cottage, Bristol. Volcanic, a son of the homebred bull Doncombe Rangatira a Blackwater Jockey son, and out of a Druk Lance bred daughter, he sold with the highest beef value of the sale BA37. Volcanic is no stranger to the show ring as he has already lifted this summer Male Champion, Junior Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion at the Royal Show and the Royal Welsh Show. He was knocked down to Mr JC Lewis of the Druk herd at Faringdon, Oxon.

Selling for 4,600gns was the sales reserve junior and reserve supreme championship entry, Garngour Value, from John and Helen Clark from North Garngour Farm, Lesmahagow. Sired by Ballygowan Noble and out of a Riversdale Imperial bred daughter, Value attracted the eye of top suckler producers Bill and Ilona Thompson of Nether Glasslaw , Fraserburgh, who had received the evening prior the suckler herd of the year award on behalf of the Blonde Society.

In the female section the leading price tag of 1,500gns went to the reserve female champion from Peter de Giles of Swanton Farm, Ashford, Kent. Bilsington Victoria, an April 2004 born heifer by Bilsington Snowdon and out of a Flembeau bred daughter, was immaculately presented as stocksperson, Jenny Preston, received the award the for the best turned out animal of the day. Victoria, a maiden heifer, was sold to Mr RT Ward of New South Farm, Pickering, North Yorkshire.

Averages – 9 bulls £2,776.67 (plus £239.17), 1 cow served and/or suckling £1,050, 4 maiden heifers £984.38.

Judge – Mr E Crozier, Faugh Beeches, Heads Nook, Carlisle, Cumbria.
