Doncombe Blonde
Supreme Champion
A new breed record of 8,200gns was set on Saturday 14th May 2005 at the Blonde Society Spring show and sale at Carlisle with demand for all classes once again being strong throughout, and a 75% clearance was achieved for bulls.

Taking the breed record price title of 8,200gns was Quicks USA a first prize winning bull consigned by Andrew R Quick & Partners from Crediton, Devon. USA, a November 2003 born stylish bull by Loosebeare Robert and bred from a Loosebeare General mother, was strongly bid for with the final bidding coming from Mike Harrison of the Shapfell herd based at Shap, Penrith.

A few lots later Lawrence Haygarth of Kelleth Rigg, Penrith, sold for 5,200gns his second prize entry, Rayneside Uriah, a December 2003 born son of Easterton Rowan and out of a Totteridge Justice bred dam. Uriah another much admired entry, was sold to the Penyghent herd for Mr & Mrs J Bradley of Skipton, N.Yorkshire.

Paragon Blondes
Reserve Champion

The reserve junior champion entry from Paragon Blondes secured a bid of 5,000gns. Paragon Viceroy, a well muscled stylish young bull by the imported Mir sire and bred from the very successful show winning dam Ashtonlodge Olive. Viceroy caught the eye of society breed chairman, Eric Mutch of the Whitefield herd based in Banff, Aberdeenshire.

The events junior and supreme champion entry was shown by David Knight from Coombe Cottage, Bristol. Doncombe Vulpecular, born March 2004 is a son of the highly acclaimed Druk Lance sire and bred from a daughter of Blackwars Hebrew. He sold carrying a beef value of BA25 to a telephone bid from G & P Burrough of Glastonbury, Someret for 3,600gns.

In the female classes the top price of the sale at 2,500gns went to a cow and calf outfit from Paragon Blondes. Withybrook Sweetpea, a second calver, sold with her heifer calf at foot, Paragon Ami. Sweetpea, a daughter to Hadley Esquire, is a half sister to Withybrook Orchid a successful show winning female for the breed at some of the national shows. She was sold to WH Hutchinson of Uldale Farm, Kirkby Stephen.

Also reaching over the 2,000gn mark was an in calf heifer from Eric Mutch of Banff. Selling for 2,300gns was Whitefield Uppity a May 2003 daughter of Bilsington Nelson, which had earlier in the day lifted the reserve female champion ticket. She sold to G & A Hamilton of Ramrig Farm, Duns.

Averages:- 6 Senior Bulls £1,960.00 (minus £218.75), 21 Junior Bulls £2,755.00 (plus £177.73), 27 Bulls £2,578.33 (plus £208.98),1 Cow with calf £2,625.00, 3 Served Heifers £2,100.00, 9 Maiden Heifers £1,131.67.
