Local breeders Ed and Joanne Crozier of the Beech herd based at Heads Nook, Carlisle secured the leading price of 3,200gns at the official blonde society July show and sale held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle. Beech Select, a September 2001 born bull of Megray Prudential and out of the home bred cow Nicola, won the reserve senior champion award earlier in the day at the pre-sale judging. He was knocked down to Messrs BN Wood, Prendwick & Rothill Farm, Alnwick. Selling for the next leading price of 2,600gns was Doncombe Supernova from David Knight of Woodlands, Nr Chippenham. Supernova, a Blackwater Jockey son and out of a Aveton Monet daughter, carried a beef value of 27. He sold to Messrs S Ewart & Sons of Belridding, Torthorwald, Dumfries. Also from the Doncombe herd was the reserve junior champion male of the show which sold for 2,200gns. Another Jockey son going back to Druk Lance through his dam, he was secured by Messrs GB & M Wray & Son of Kitts Farm, Louth, Lincs. The overall champion of the day was Stubbswalden Stevie from Kendall Jackson of Little Grove Farm, Walden, Doncaster. Stevie was no stranger to the judging ring having won Junior Beef Champion at Newark & Notts show and the Royal show. Unfortunately he left the sale ring unsold. Leading the female section at 1,600gns was a cow and calf unit from Messrs TM & J Hope of South Brownhill Farm, Strathaven. Brownhill Roz, a first calved heifer, is a Druk Indiana daughter selling with her May born heifer calf by Whistley Publican. She sold to Mr AR Walker of Ayr. Averages - 8 bulls £1,857.19, 3 females £1,172.50 |
