DAFFODIL DAY BLONDES PEAK AT 5500GNS The Champion of the Blonde Societys Daffodil Day sale, at Carlisle on Friday 7th March 2003, sold for a top price of 5500gns.
Doncombe Simba, with a Beef Value of BA23, and a sale day weight of 1001kgs, was sired by Blackwater Jockey and out of Doncombe Orvieto. Born in May 2001 this tremendous bull was offered for sale by Blonde enthusiast David Knight of Chippenham, Wiltshire. He was purchased by pedigree Blonde breeders Paragon Blondes, of Hexham, Northumberland. The Reserve Champion of the day, from Malcolm Telfer of Stocksfield, Northumberland took the second top price of 4000gns. Stocksfield Sceptre, a June 2001 born Stocksfield Gladiator son out of Totteridge Lela was snapped up by Messrs JH Stawhorn & Son of Lockerbie, Dumfries. Meanwhile Glenmoy Sampson, bred by Neil & Sam Brown of Hackleton, Northants, who was out of Tyringham Elderberry and by Brownhill Oswald. Born in May 2001 he sold for 3800gns to Messrs Coulthard of Weardale, Co Durham. Then at 3100gns, Helen Greenbank of Wigton, Cumbria, sold her bull, Style Solo, born in June 2001. He was sired by Garngour Opel and out of Style Jasmin. The successful purchaser on this occasion was Messrs Walker of Tow Law, Co Durham. In at 2600gns was Kinaston Simple-Simon, from Roy Kinnish of Bridgenorth, Shropshire. Sired by Kinaston Henry VIII and out of Kinaston Izzie, the purchaser was Messrs O Jones of Llanfairfechan, Conway, Wales. Meanwhile, Graham Barber of Crediton, Devon, sold Megray Splendid, a December 2001 born Kedworthy Mine son out of Megray Jeanette, for 2500gns. The final bid came from Mr WH Barker of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. Females too, sold well. With a total clearance. Top price for the day was Hayton Orchid, a January 1998 born Joyau daughter, out of oHadley Ebony. She was offered for sale by Jim and Fiona Buchanan of Hayton, Aspatria, Cumbria, with her heifer calf Hayton Unique, born in January 2003 and sired by Hayton Rex. The successful bidder was Michael Kane fo Melton Mowbray, Leicester. Second top in the female section was Garngour Rhoda, a May 2000 born Cosdon Navajo daughter, out of Garngour Mandy. She was sold in Calf to Hallfield Robroy. She caught the eye of Mr I Spedding of Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, who paid 1550gns for her. In all a very good sale for the Blondes, with quality cattle selling for good money. 15 bulls averaged £2653. 4 Cows and Calves £1535, and 4 Heifers £1351. |
